I think George Harrison beat him to it.

I quite enjoy cross cultural influences...done right...

Nonetheless, there are those on your side of the ideological fence who regard it as cultural appropriation, are there not?

Whatever you say, Maestro. It's not gospel, nor blues, nor the imprecise combination you suggest. There are all sorts of pentatonic scales, after all.

I think you err, pal. Harrison took a few lessons on sitar in India from Pandit Ravi Shankar but that's about the extent of your comparison. This is a collaborative cross-cultural exercise.

How would you be able to know?

I don't believe there's much room for political ideology in music, apart from lyrics. Not that I believe, as I've said previously, you have a very firm grip on my ideologies.

Look, if what this is about is you trolling my music thread, knock yourself out -- but don't expect me to offer the courtesy of replying to such nonsense. I've had music threads trolled by real trolls, as you might imagine.

Freud trolls you too?

The boy can't help himself.

And don't fret, I'm not trolling your music thread.

I'm just trying to breathe some life into it.

Breath control is more important if you play wind instruments.

That reminds me, I told Fash I was gonna do some brass. I'll not bother with a separate thread.

More tango, especially Astor Piazzolla

While this gorgeous tango has been arranged for damn near every instrument, I'm quite partial to the euphonium since I played one for years in my schoolboy daze.

My grandfather was a renowned exponent of the electric guitar in the UK, even having an article about him published in "Variety".

My father played electric guitar in Glenn Miller style "big bands" in the 50's.

I am living proof that musical adeptness is not transferable by DNA.

Electric guitar in the big band era was not your solidbody guitar of today, but typically a big ass archtop guitar, with a mag pickup added. Before Charlie Christian (i.e., prior to WW2) they had to be played acoustically. In my childhood nobody wanted an archtop guitar because it didn't have the warm sweet tone of a flattop, but in recent years those old archtop beasts have had a renascence. See my post at the top of page 2, this thread.

His was a Hofner, as you describe. Bigass.

That is all I know about it.

Here are two BPILFs. Jen Condos, Hofner President bass -- and Tal Wilkenfeld, Fender Jazz bass

It's Good Friday and I'm sharing this wonderful Jesuit hymn here for Fash.

Aside from the paper, no trees were harmed to produce this.
