Peaches is posting music, I normally wouldn't get a chance to listen to.

This is a Bob Dylan song from 1989, before Jarosz was even born. I feel like she owns it now. I had to keep reminding myself to breathe, listening to her.

I may have posted this previously. The band is Turkish but the lyrics are in Hebrew (hinech yafa = thou art fair) and draw from the Song of Songs in Jewish scripture.

I'd love to have Gaon's take on the lyrics.

This style is still considered Gypsy swing (jazz Manouche) but it's become truly international.

I was listening to some tracks by the late Nubian oud master Hamza El-Din, and it showed up in the right hand column of suggestions. I was intrigued by the santur (hammered dulcimer) since I only know that as an Appalachian instrument. YT excursions are like that for me, filled with happy surprises and accidents.

Here is Hamza El-Din.

The lyrics to Hinech Yafa (You Are Beautiful) ...roughly translated:

In my bed, it's been weeks
Since I wished for my loved one
And I could not find him
I have searched all around the city streets
This full-of-lies city
And I could not find him

I was found by the guards
Who patrol the city
But my loved one, I have yet to find him

But I will not let him go
Until I bring him to my city
To my mother's home and into my room
Into my bed

You are so beautiful, my wife
And your lips are like a crimson string
Your teeth are white
Like the light of the moon

Who is this girl that's rising from the desert
From a faraway land
Carried upon a mighty bird's wing
Coming to my home

You are so beautiful, my wife
I am captivated by your eyes
Which are burning me
Like roaring flames

Who is this girl that's rising from the desert
From a faraway land
Carried upon a mighty bird's wing
Coming to my home

This won't embed, probably, and you'll have to click thru to YouTube.

Yuja Wang, Prokofieff Toccata in D minor. Looks like an encore performance. Wish I'd been there.

The Toccata in D minor, Op. 11 is a piece for solo piano, written by Sergei Prokofiev in 1912 and debuted by him late in 1916 in Petrograd. It's one of his early pieces.

It is an extremely difficult, demanding showpiece that is very popular with virtuoso pianists and has been recorded by many. However, I've not seen a performance on this level of virtuosity by any other pianist. Not only does she play it with great precision, she extracts all the delicacy and melodiousness of it at the same time. If you watch the other members of the orchestra while she plays, you can easily see how flabbergasted some of them are.

I can't say I "like" the piece although I appreciate it. For that matter, I'm not a huge fan of the composer either.

But I like to think I can be seduced by skill and genius when I see it and hear it, and she is my Genius of the Week.

If she clicks on it, it should open a black screen that says:

Video Unavailable

Watch this video on YouTube (that's an embedded link she can click to open it in YT.)

Playback on other websites has been disabled by the video owner.

But @Priscilla, it's probably not worth a lot of trouble. Somehow I doubt you'll care for it.

You're very kind. Here are the last two items I've added to my "liked" list.

Make it three.
