Only in Australia...

Keep your dogs inside or they will be croc food.

Bricktop

You might want to keep your kids inside too...unless they're not as important as the pooch.

Keep yourself inside in Townsville.

Keep yourself inside in Townsville.

And the crocodiles outside.

Snakes are just as dangerous...

They're swimming around too.

The whole thing is devastating. People shouldn't live in the tropics.

Queensland does seem to draw on charity from the rest of Australia quite a lot, yet remains somewhat arrogant and ungrateful.

Our insurance premiums will go up to pay for their damage. However, when these catastrophes repeat regularly, it may be asked as to why Townsville is built on a flood plain, and why the Queensland government isn't building drainage conduits to alleviate the problem.

Tropical habitation is irrelevant. Building permits issued on flood plains is nuts. Half of Winnipeg is on a flood plain.

The problem is it's too late to relocate a city. Engineers need to design and construct anti flooding barriers and levees to mitigate the damage.

But they won't because the government will need to foot the bill.

It's cheaper to let insurance companies carry the load.

When Cyclone Yasi went through, Labor upped our medicare levy to 4%... forcibly taking a $1,000 or more out of our pockets to pay for it. I was outraged... Every state has insurance but Queensland didn't... so I now say, fuck Queensland.

The Feds didn't take care of me when my house burned down, I had to take care of myself.

I would NOT move to a cyclone area unless I could build one of those old style homes on stilts and even then I still wouldn't go.

My brother-in-law came from Longreach. I have Queensland connections...

I think we are entitled to ask why Queenslanders keep holding out their hands for help, yet do nothing to prevent or reduce the damage potential of the inevitable flooding.

In Canada, municipalities that issue building permits on flood plains blame climate change when floods happen.
