If it wasn't the UN, it would seem like this appointment was made as a joke.

It's not a joke, it is a calculated move. The message the appointment sends is simple enough. The powers that be have decided that there are a group of people (in this particular instance it's women) who enjoy more rights than the people calling the shots are happy with. What better way to whittle away at those rights than by appointing someone whose nation has a history of not affording its women the same considerations as are currently taken for granted in the so-called civilized world?



This sort of maneuver happens all the time, the disenfranchisement of a person or persons based upon the notion that if you can remove the rights of some, eventually you can level the playing field by removing those rights from all. Naturally there will be a small select number of people who will be exempt and therefore in a position to reap any rewards this practice provides. It's not the sole purvey of leftist libtards and neo-marxists either, pretty much everywhere you look you can find examples of people attempting to corral and extract all they can from those who enjoy a lesser station in life than their own. From corporatists using it to advance their own ends under the false pretense of capitalism right on down to those who would pay pennies in the dollar to have their shitters shined in fact.

Nothing the UN does surprises me anymore. Let's get out of that awful organization.

Agreed. While we're at it, it might pay to look at expunging a few more negative organizational elements like it from the equation as well. I don't like your chances of successfully eliminating all of it, but it sure beats doing nothing except complain about the situation as our way of life is eroded away around us.
