One thing anti-vaxxers are right about is that additional doses will be needed to maintain immunity levels. The growth of variants will ensure that.

Yabut, that's not news. Flu requires annual shot .. only reason being constant changes in flu virus, aka variants

I wouldn't term it "are right" to merely state the obvious and exactly what we all expected

There have been 65 cases of myocarditis/pericarditis as of June 18 in Canada out of 31.4 million vaccines administered at the time, according to federal government data.

Vaccines do prevent transmission, but not as well as they prevent serious symptoms.

Vaccinations may not stop COVID-19 spread, but they relieve ICUs: experts

While COVID-19 may still be transmissible between vaccinated individuals, the ability of vaccinations to prevent serious illness will keep extreme restrictions — such as lockdowns — from making a comeback, medical experts say.

University of Toronto biomedical engineer professor Dr. Omar Khan said that there are two kinds of efficacies for vaccines: its ability to prevent infection, and its ability to prevent severe disease.

The approved COVID-19 vaccines' ability to prevent infection is not as high as their ability to prevent disease, but nevertheless, if there is transmission between two vaccinated people, their immune systems have a better shot at knocking it out.

Once your immune system kills the virus, then you won't transmit it, which he said will be "really helpful to eventually stop the virus."

Khan said while transmissions may still occur, vaccines ultimately provide personal protection to keep you out of the ICU.

"Trying to get through a natural infection and survival is not a fun thing," he said. "You can do it a lot faster, a lot less energy [with vaccines]."

We might be a long way from putting this behind us.

Lambda Variant's 'Unusual' Mutations May Make It Resistant to Vaccines: Researchers

Scientists are concerned that a newly labeled COVID-19 variant, first detected in Peru, may be resistant to COVID-19 vaccines due to "unusual" mutations.

Researchers from the University of Chile in Santiago said in a study published in a preprint last week that the variant has "a considerable potential to become a variant of concern."

"Our data show for the first time that mutations present in the spike protein of the Lambda variant confer escape to neutralizing antibodies and increased infectivity," wrote researchers in the paper that has yet to be peer-reviewed.

If people don't have some immunity through catching the virus and recovering like I did or through vaccination, they will have to get used to testing whenever they want to travel or attend large events like sports or concerts.

I'd prefer not to think about that Seoul.

Yes. Every variant as it appeared, right from the first one,  went through the same processes of concerns

This isn't my specialty, but eventually we will get variant(s) that are resistant to our current vaccines.

I agree totally. Just like flu, annual at least will be needed for variants

That would apply to people like yourself who got current protection for it naturally

I looked it up, and at this pace, Alberta will pass Israel in the near future for second doses.
