BC threw out all the rules today

Vaccine cards mandatory nowhere - masks mandatory nowhere

At least they allow and support all business who wish to demand masks and / or vaccine cards

That's a saving factor to the smart owners who understand how the game works in a very tough business

That's good. Leave it up up to businesses.

Starting Tuesday, Alberta will be offering a second booster(fourth dose) to anyone over the age of seventy.

Option of change starts tomorrow, Friday. We went today & I just talked to the owner of the pub we frequent. He is trying out dropping passports & masks when walking between tables , but he and all staff fear business will drop off a lot .. a pool of 92%, a great many of whom have already said they will not go if he does that (from his survey of regular clients this week),  vs. a pool of 8%

It ain't rocket science

He is reserving the right to return to what was before in a heartbeat if their business falls off significantly ... or even a small amount (It's a tough business area to succeed in & they have done what it takes to succeed for over 40 years)   ..

All staff are saying they will go back to wearing masks unless it unloads the nutbars

(Just a note. This place is well known and extremely creditable  as the largest, most awarded and most financially successful lounge + restaurant combo in the entire lower mainland)

Loose even a small % of vaccinated crowd and you loose a lot of money

That must be a West Coast thing. Even in Saskatoon and Regina, masks and vax passports would mean no business. Young people in Saskatchewan in particular are realling against COVID measures at bars.

I've heard a few reataurants and coffee shops around Calgary still require vaccine passports and masks..

It's so few though.

We'll see how it all shakes out.

Owners will ultimately have to react to demand. Restaurants and pubs work on tight margins & will assess that and decide finally

I know the West Coast is uber prog, but even there I didn't think folks wanted masks and mandates anymore.

The U.S. government on April 5 immediately halted all shipments of a COVID-19 treatment to states and ordered health care providers not to use the drug.

The actions were taken because of the increasing prevalence of BA.2, a subvariant of Omicron, which is a variant of the CCP virus, the virus causes COVID-19.

Data so far indicate that the monoclonal antibody called sotrovimab doesn't work against BA.2, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

A "Frankenstein"-style new Omicron subvariant is spreading in the UK — and some experts fear the mutation may be the most contagious form yet of COVID-19.

The XE variant — which has also been confirmed in India and Thailand — is a mix of Omicron's BA.1 strain and the new "stealth" BA.2 form, the Daily Beast reported.

Such mutations are known as "recombinants," and occur when a person gets infected with two or more variants at a time and they combine "Frankenstein" style, the outlet reported.

A total of 637 cases of the XE recombinant variant have been confirmed in the UK, according to data from the UK Health Security Agency.

It's unclear whether XE causes more severe illness or evades vaccines, though early data suggests that it may be more transmissible than earlier forms of the Omicron virus.

"Early estimates suggest that XE has a community growth rate advantage of 1.1 (which represents a 10% transmission advantage) as compared to BA.2,"

"So far there is not enough evidence to draw conclusions about transmissibility, severity or vaccine effectiveness," - UK Health Security Agency chief medical adviser

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released data on Tuesday showing that nearly 60% of Americans have coronavirus antibodies in their blood. The number of children with COVID-19 antibodies is even higher — almost 75% of children 11 and younger have antibodies, providing at least some protection from the virus.

For the first time, a federal health panel has recommended against the use of ivermectin for the treatment of COVID-19, despite reports that it's successfully been used to treat the illness.

Meanwhile, the panel said there are several drugs that "now have demonstrated clinical benefit for the treatment of COVID-19," further rendering ivermectin—which is a relatively inexpensive drug—unnecessary.
