Can we come to grips with two facts?

1) "Covid-Zero" isn't a thing in the real life world. It's an impossible ideal. Let's just put that term to bed.

2) This pandemic won't just disappear. It subsides in waves. Natural waves of infections (and deaths) that crest lower each time and eventually (mostly) subside.

The real pandemic ended in February. That was the last wave during which we didn't have widespread vaccinations. Now, most of us are vaccinated or have built up natural immunities and each wave that ripples through our communities ripples a little less.

All the patterns are pretty much the same in other countries and globally, save for different timings and incomplete data. For example, the U.S. is already coming down from their "crest" while Canada is still reaching it.

Government policy has nothing to do with it at this point. The only policies and actions that mattered was getting people vaccinated. Now we just watch waves rising and falling and eventually diminishing.

The strength of waves cannot really be known 1. as we apply restrictions period,  and 2. more so in that the restrictions and their timing relative to spread varies

In other words the numbers of each wave are artificially influenced, so cannot be compared under same circumstances

But, we know the hospitalizations, and deaths.

That is true at a given moment in time  ... but because we do things to slow / alter  waves, we can never know what it would have been if left alone

And because we do things differently each time, we cannot compare one wave to another as to how they would have compared if left alone

Would one have been larger or smaller than another can never be known

We do know immunity, either through vaccination or infection and recovery in my case is causing death rates to slow.

The death rate is low. I couldn't find weekend data on vaccinated vs unvaxxed.

I thought that was actually for Saturday to today..

Today would appear as September 6 for example.

BC had less than half the cases we did at 2425 and fifteen deaths..

BC has 255 people in hospital and 126 in ICU.

Alberta is developing a machine-readable QR code that can be downloaded or placed on a smartphone to make it easy to prove vaccination status..

Even if the province doesn't force vaccine passports, most businesses, large events and organizations will use the QR code.

So, each business decides how they want to play it?

The QR code is voluntary, but it's for proof of vaccination..

I expect it will be applied to most places across the province.

I read something interesting from Saskatchewan.....eighty four per cent of all new cases and hospitalizations in August were among the unvaccinated.

Todays Ontario report has ICU at - 120 unvaxxed or partial, 8 fully vaxxed

Also rate of infections for unvaxxed per 100,000 people is 11.1 --- from vaxxed is 1.6

And to be accurate in perspective, we need to keep in mind that unvaxxed numbers come from only 1/4 of the population ... vaxxed comes from 75%

People getting sick or in ICU are where the difference between the vaccinated and unvaccinated is most pronounced.
