On January 14, the WHO cited Chinese government propaganda in asserting that the virus doesn't spread from person to person. That disinformation allowed the virus to spread globally. Countries like Canada continued to allow flights from Wuhan, believing that there was no danger.



Donald Trump did the right thing when he cut off funding to the WHO. He'd seen enough of the corruption. But what about Canada?



Our Chief Public Health Officer, Dr. Theresa Tam, has continually cited the WHO as an authority. Dr. Tam said face masks don't work. Not true. She said closing the borders to travelers arriving from virus hotspots wouldn't work. Not true. She spent the month of January echoing the WHO's contention that anyone worried about the virus was indulging in racism.



Canada needed a Chief Public Health Officer who would investigate all the pertinent information and then recommend policies to protect Canadians.



But instead we got Dr. Tam, who dutifully repeats the propaganda of a CCP government obsessed with political control and saving face. She does this because she is involved with an organization, the WHO, which is effectively controlled by that government.



Dr. Tam must now either resign or be fired.



Canada's Chief Public Health Officer needs to work for Canada. Not for the WHO or any other foreign entity.

U.S. intelligence officials believe that agents of the Chinese government helped boost fake claims through social media and text messages in March aimed at stoking panic over nationwide lockdowns over the coronavirus pandemic, according to a report from The New York Times.



The newspaper cited six intelligence officials all in different agencies who said that Chinese agents helped spread messages claiming that the Trump administration was planning to impose curfews, and would deploy troops to prevent widespread looting and rioting.



The messages, which circulated widely in mid-March, included vague claims of draconian nationwide lockdowns citing sources from the Pentagon, National Security Council or FBI. Some urged recipients to take money out of their bank accounts and fill up on gas ahead of the purported lockdowns.



"They will announce this as soon as they have troops in place to help prevent looters and rioters," reads one message cited by TheNYT. "He said he got the call last night and was told to pack and be prepared for the call today with his dispatch orders."

US Senator Tom Cotton suggests Chinese students shouldn't be allowed to study sciences in the US



 it was a "scandal" that the United States has trained some Chinese nationals to "go back to China to compete for our jobs, to take our business, and ultimately to steal our property and design weapons and other devices that can be used against the American people."



Cotton, who has vowed that China will "pay" for what he has called its deliberate choice to unleash the coronavirus on the world, went on to say that the U.S. should take a "hard look at the visas" awarded to Chinese nationals.



"If Chinese students want to come here and study Shakespeare and the Federalist Papers, that's what they need to learn from America," Cotton said. "They don't need to learn quantum computing and artificial intelligence from America."



Left-wing commenators quickly accused Cotton of racism, and noted that Shakespeare was not an American.

They might see an absolute decline in their economy, but they refuse to see a relative decline, especially relative to the United States."



According to The Associated Press, internal Chinese documents show that government officials acknowledged likely human-to-human transmission of coronavirus, and said they were following orders from the president of China to keep it under wraps.

I agree. China detests weakness, but has used our leader's weakness to become powerful.



Having always been a trade protectionist at heart (make deals with individual countries as fit the circumstances is fine .. but not as a group and not without tariffs where one country has a natural price advantage), I find it unimaginable that free trade with China in the equation every came to be.



It was so easy to envision the result. China would get rich, others would get poorer .. It's a DUH .. and there could have been no other outcome



Then came successful attempts to level the playing field and China saw income falling



And of course it was the pressure applied to straighten out the HUGE trade imbalance that caused China to unleash havoc upon the West



For those thinking outright free trade with China could work for them (all world leaders and many citizens at the time), I have some nice waterfront land in south central Florida that I'll sell to them for a fairly cheap price .. and I'll throw in ownership papers for a big bridge or 2 in Manhattan

The European Union caved into pressure from the Chinese government regarding a report on disinformation related to the coronavirus pandemic, news reports show.

 

According to news reports, the EU removed language from a report that criticized Beijing over a 'global disinformation' campaign to deflect blame for the early response to the pandemic.



EU analysts circulated emails saying that the Chinese government was 'very angry' with the language in a draft of the report. Another accused the EU of 'self-censoring' to appease the communist regime.  



The Chinese government successfully pressured European Union officials to water down language in a report that cited the communist regime's disinformation campaign regarding the coronavirus pandemic, according to news reports.



Chinese diplomats reached out to the EU earlier this week after learning through a Politico story about the imminent release a report noting Beijing's disinformation efforts, according to Reuters.
