Beijing Tells Biden Administration to Play by the CCP's Rules

China's top diplomat Yang Jiechi warned the Biden administration not to cross Beijing's "red line" in a half-hour speech on the evening of Feb. 1.

"The United States should stop interference in the affairs of Hong Kong, Tibet, and Xinjiang," Yang said, calling the issues regarding the three regions China's "internal affairs." He made the remarks while speaking at a virtual event hosted by New York-based nonprofit the National Committee on U.S.-China Relations.

Yang added: "They constitute a red line that must not be crossed. Any trespassing would end up undermining China-U.S. relations and the United States' own interests."

He also told the United States that it should "strictly abide by the One China principle" with regards to Taiwan, a self-ruled island that Beijing claims is part of its territory.

The Trump administration confronted China on its human rights violations against Falun Gong adherents, Hongkongers, Muslim minorities, Tibetans, and Uyghurs, by imposing visa restrictions and sanctions against Chinese Communist Party (CCP) officials responsible for the abuse.

Additionally, former U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo designated CCP's persecution of Uyghurs and other majority-Muslim ethnic minorities as genocide and "crimes against humanity" last month.

China Is Collecting Americans' DNA, Posing Major Security Risks: US Counterintelligence Agency

The Chinese regime has for years been collecting large amounts of American health care data, including sensitive genetic information—which pose serious privacy and national security risks, a top U.S. counterintelligence agency has warned.

Alongside illegal means such as cyber hacking, Beijing has used investments in American biotech companies and partnerships with hospitals and universities to gain access to U.S. healthcare and genetic data, the National Counterintelligence and Security Center (NCSC) said in a fact sheet (pdf) released on Feb. 1.

Vast amounts of genomic information (a person's entire genetic sequence) can fuel developments in the cutting-edge field of precision medicine (or personalized medicine), allowing China to overtake the United States to become a global leader in biotech, the paper said. Such data can also be weaponized to target individuals in the country for intelligence and military operations.

The warning came as Chinese genetics giant BGI Group has drawn scrutiny over its aggressive efforts to push its COVID-19 test kits and support labs around the world, raising data security concerns. By last August, the company had sold 35 million rapid COVID-19 testing kits to 180 countries and built 58 labs in 18 countries. The company approached several U.S. states last year to build and run COVID-19 testing labs, but none accepted after U.S. officials warned against the partnership, according to recent CBS report.

Don't Fall for China's 'Negotiation Traps': Former Trump Advisor

The new U.S. administration should stand firm when dealing with Beijing and avoid falling into the communist regime's crafty "negotiation traps," a former White House security official has said.

"Don't fall for a trap that Beijing sets time and again for administration after administration, which is to try to lure the United States into a long, formal, mid-level bottoms-up negotiation," said former deputy National Security advisor Matthew Pottinger in his first public speech since leaving the White House in January.

During Pandemic, China Sent Millions of Counterfeit Masks, Test Kits to US: Customs Data

China accounted for about 51 percent of counterfeit or substandard COVID-19-related products seized by U.S. customs officials from October 2019 to Sept. 30 last year, according to a newly-released report from the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP).

Among the products seized by U.S. customs officials were over 12.7 million counterfeit masks, 177,356 COVID-19 test kits prohibited by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and 38,098 FDA-prohibited chloroquine tablets.

The effectiveness of the anti-malarial drug hydroxychloroquine and its closely-related chloroquine in treating symptoms of COVID-19, which is caused by the CCP virus (commonly known as the novel coronavirus), is of much debate.

The FDA initially issued an emergency use authorization for the two drugs, but later revoked the authorization in June last year, saying that they were "unlikely to be effective in treating COVID-19."

However, there have been studies showing their effectiveness: one study showed hydroxychloroquine lowered the death rate of COVID-19 patients, while another study demonstrated a drug cocktail containing hydroxychloroquine could lower the hospitalization and death rate of patients infected by the virus.

The FDA currently has a database listing fraudulent COVID-19 products, including test kits. The list contains company names and the names of their products.

In December last year, customs officials in Cincinnati seized 10,080 counterfeit surgical masks, which were labeled "3M Mask Model 1860," in a shipment originating from China, according to a press release. The boxes containing the masks were fraudulently labeled as "Made in the USA."

If genuine, these fake 3M masks would have an estimated manufacturer's suggested retail price of $65,520.

Of course the WHO would say it didn't come from a lab in Wuhan.

 :001_rolleyes:

WHO says coronavirus unlikely to have leaked from Chinese lab

Expert says novel coronavirus probably jumped to humans via an intermediary species

The coronavirus is unlikely to have leaked from a Chinese lab and is more likely to have jumped to humans from an animal, a World Health Organization expert said Tuesday.

WHO food safety and animal diseases expert Peter Ben Embarek made the assessment at the end of a visit to the central Chinese city of Wuhan, where a team of scientists is investigating the possible origins of the virus that causes COVID-19. The first cases were discovered in the city in December 2019.

The Wuhan Institute of Virology has collected extensive virus samples, leading to allegations that it may have caused the original outbreak by leaking the virus into the surrounding community. China has strongly rejected that possibility and has promoted other theories that the virus may have originated elsewhere. The team is considering several theories for how the disease first ended up in humans.

The WHO did not conduct a  thorough investigation. They arrived at a conclusion and worked backwards.

Just weeks after entering Wuhan to investigate, WHO claims 'extremely unlikely' COVID came from infamous lab

What is the background?

The WHO dispatched a 10-member investigative team to Wuhan last month, which arrived in the city on Thursday, Jan. 14. The researchers were only allowed into the city after Chinese President Xi Jinping approved the investigation.

The investigators were reportedly hamstrung by the Chinese government, which enacted strict testing and quarantine measures on the researchers.

From NBC News:

A government spokesman said this week they will "exchange views" with Chinese scientists but gave no indication whether they would be allowed to gather evidence. They will undergo a two-week quarantine as well as a throat swab test and an antibody test for Covid-19, according to CGTN, the English-language channel of state broadcaster CCTV. They are to start working with Chinese experts via video conference while in quarantine.

The Biden administration quietly withdrew a rule proposed by the Trump administration that would have required American schools and universities to disclose their partnerships with Confucius Institutes, which some U.S. officials allege are front groups for Chinese Communist Party propaganda.

The Trump administration submitted a proposed rule to the Department of Homeland Security on Dec. 31, 2020, entitled "Establishing Requirement for Student and Exchange Visitor Program Certified Schools to Disclose Agreements with Confucius Institutes and Classrooms."

Around 500 K-12 schools and 65 colleges in the U.S. have partnerships with the Confucius Institute U.S. Center, a U.S.-based affiliate of the Beijing-based Confucius Institute Headquarters. The institute, also known as Hanban, is affiliated with the Chinese Ministry of Education.

Many of Hanban's directors are members of the Chinese Communist Party or have close ties to the organization, The Daily Caller has previously reported.
