American COVID death rate once 3.6 times higher than Canada now about the same

The problem was New York and it's idiotic progtard mayor who told people as late as March 10 not to worry about the coronavirus. Now that the worst hit city in the world is on the downside of the curve, Canada and the US death rates are about the same.

Without the Big Apple, the Canada-U.S. gap looks very different. Nearly half the difference disappears. Move beyond the suburbs of New York, and the Canada-U.S. death rates are even closer.

What's beyond dispute is that New York was clobbered by COVID-19, and one of its defining attributes — crowding — played a role.



New York has no rival in Canada when it comes to population density, which epidemiologists identify as a contributing risk. It has twice the density of Vancouver, Canada's most-crowded city.



Every weekday, 5.4 million people cram into New York's subway system, pushing its metal turnstiles and filling its cars, with a rail ridership more than six times that of Toronto's subway and streetcar system.

ON = 13.6m 18,700 cases, 1,500 deaths, (way too many from a totally broken Elder Care system also)

PQ  = 08.2m 35,000 cases, 2,500 deaths,  (I hear also way too many from a totally broken Elder Care system also)  



Certainly density plays a huge role making both higher than rest of country, but the numbers are bad in ON & crazy in Quebec, so much so that it has to be management

We  were first along with WA State to be hit hard .. thanks of course to so many Wuhan flights to Seattle and Vancouver .. but really jumped on it fast and did an exceptional job



5 Million people, 2,255 cases & 124 Fatalities ... including our surprise initial hit, a poorly managed care home where many got it and many died. Within hours the Province took it over and checked out every other home .. where there have been very few new cases .. and set protections for all citizens within the first 24 hours.

It can be done right. Every BC citizen is very fortunate



Sadly, most areas did not follow our lead



We are doing well and plans to open piecemeal start today.



Alberta, smaller than us has  almost 3 X our cases  ... but are doing exceedingly well keeping people alive



Further - We, BC & WA, each had one Care Home heavy hit and moved quickly to protect it and ALL Care Homes .. extremely successfully



Thanks for prompting me - I dug into numbers and now realize that I and my daughter in Washington State are  very lucky compared to most if not all areas on a population basis





Which leads me to this question!!



If we (BC & WA) were struck much earlier than others, and quickly figured what to do about it ... Why didn't others figure it out .. and even smarter, talk with us to learn what we did and get a jump start on it that we did not have?

Like ... WHY?

Instead, they covered their ears .. and bumbled and fumbled day after depressing day as their people got sick and / or died



Meanwhile BC continues to do exceedingly well
