An aircraft with the Canadian Forces Snowbirds demonstration jet team crashed in Kamloops, B.C., on Sunday.

Dana Hings told Global News she was at home, watching the Snowbirds when she heard a crash.



"We thought it broke the sound barrier and we come over onto the deck and we see smoke, so we raced over," she said.

"I'm a retired nurse, so of course I went into the backyard and there was a woman, she was in the plane and she was deceased."



Hings said the other occupant of the plane was able to eject and landed on a nearby roof.

Mike Trafford, who lives near the airport, told Global News the aircraft had just taken off when something went wrong.



"The plane did a barrel roll, and shortly after the barrel roll there was a spark and the pilot ejected," he said.



"Then the plane took a nosedive and went straight down."



Video from the scene appears to show two people ejecting from the jet before it crashes.



The BC Ambulance Service says it received a call around 11:30 a.m. and deployed multiple units, both ground and air.

Dunno what is going on about "a woman" was also in the cockpit and killed

They were here on Friday. We could hear them, but we didn't see them. My sons were so disappointed.

"Nurse" claimed some else died in cockpit - Not hearing any further on that - I'd like to hear some more official reports so we know the facts



BTW- The 2 smoke puffs just before hitting ground were

- 1st the cockpit cover being blasted away

- 2nd was pilot being blasted out of the aircraft



Just saw "Expert" on TV say "the 2  puffs were 2 ejecting - second chute cannot be seen opening and one person not found yet"



Dunno, conflicting and confusing stories at this time - There should be definitive info soon

I never really got the chance to see them, though I've been to a Blue Angels airshow when I was still in high school, pretty awesome and and a must watch for anyone into military stuff.  ac_cool

I have seen the Snowbirds practice around Moose Jaw where they are based.

I have seen the birds maybe a dozen times. Every time I felt 2 conflicting powerful feelings



1. Powerful  respect for the tremendous skill of the pilots and beauty of their maneuvers (good feeling)



2. Awareness  of the danger of flying any fighter plane, much less the danger of such close proximity to each other ... awareness that at any second, tragedy can happen .. and eventually will (bad feeling)



We got a show every year & were to this year. A dramatic moment in our shows is because of the geography here - they come en mass all close together straight at the beach only to suddenly climb parallel to the steep hill that starts at the beach then immediately level off and fly over the downtown area above the hill.



The skills are phenomenal





Latest report (Note: still unofficial) "one of crew landed on a roof and broke legs but is otherwise OK -  other died"

Not surprising as ejection and chutes opening was at very low altitude and likely did not have time to fully open

Or.

Engine failure... He tried to maneuver towards a safer zone..





There is an urban center in the direction he was heading but nothing in the opposite direction..



His plane stalled and he had to eject.
