The horrific images of such blatant culture destruction were shown throughout the West via TV
For many of the Western world, it was their first look at at the horrors within Afghanistan & Fundamentalist islam .. and what was to come to us from it

Those Buddhist statues were blown up 6 months before 9/11. (Destruction starts about 4 minute mark of above video^^)
