Mel you're a high end appliance kinda guy. What do you think of these front loading LG washer and dryer? It'll cost me nearly $2500 with the $80 stacking kit and $25 new hoses. The thing about front load washers is that the rubber part around the opening needs to be cleaned regularly or it will smell. It's gonna be tight in the laundry closet. With 3" of space at the back for the dryer vent hose.

No. The rubber part on front load washers have to be cleaned regularly to avoid foul smell. I need front loaders because I need to stack them in a closet. These new washers and dryers seem very high tech. Can connect your smartphone through wifi.

I saw stackable washer with front loading dryer in an appliance store.

Yes. We have one of these really old ones. The dryer stopped working. It was repaired twice. Purchased at an old appliance store for $700 7 years ago.

They still make the top loading washer with front loading stackable dryer.

I do find our front loading washer spins much faster and leaves all items needing much less drying

In fact, many items come out so close to dry that I can smooth wrinkles by hand and hang over chair to finish drying wrinkle-free

Smell on rubber seal is true as Van said .. I now leave door slightly agar when at rest which solves that problem.

I suspect it may even come from machine itself building up over time as seal is air-proof by design as vs not needed to be air tight on top loaders

In my condo I had stacked front load Whirlpool washer & dryer, and they were great! (Other than having to do a secondary manual rinse cycle to completely rinse out the soap)

Just make sure those front loads will fit in your space depth-wise.  I had a matching Samsung frontload W & D delivered to my house, and I didn't eyeball them well enough at the store...  Depth-wise they wouldn't quite fit in the space I have to work with here, so I exchanged them for a toploading set instead, which do fit and work quite well.  I could make that work here, since I don't have to stack them like in condo.

As long as they'll fit without crushing the vent hose, that LG set should be OK!  If in doubt for space, take a tape measure to the store and measure different front loaders...  There is no standard depth as I found out, and machines will all vary in depth.  It may be worth choosing another model if you can gain a bit more vent space...

Yes, I do this too with my washers.  While they are of course designed to be damp, I don't want them to stay damp 24/7, and cracking the door open prevents this.  Never had a stinky washer...

Do you have money for repairs? I have a few friends who have had these...they broke down and needed a repair, the cost of the part or the repair wasn't even worth it, might as well just throw it out and buy a new one.

A lot of things made today are poor quality or just shitty.  Nothing is built to last.

I have a regular w&d, it does what it needs to do.

Good luck in whatever you decide to buy.

He needs to stack 'em though, so he's pretty much stuck with a front loader...

That's good to know..

Our washer works fine, but I'll remember that for the future.
