It started with a mystery. Why would a huge USAF cargo jet fly in and do a slow turn  and double pass over White Rock pier?

One thing is for certain: the visit – in the form of a U.S. Air Force transport plane over White Rock Pier – caught the attention of waterfront residents and visitors.

The first pass was directly over the end of the pier

Friday was a big day for South Surrey youngster Ethan Fritz – after months of separation due to pandemic-related border restrictions,

he got to see his daddy. ... Well, sort of.

Thursday night, however, Fritz received news that Minzak had organized a special visit for Ethan – permission to do a low-level fly-by of the White Rock Pier in the C17 transport plane he was piloting for a training exercise.

Minzak, who is originally from Texas, is a pilot for Alaska Airlines and flies reserve for the U.S. Air Force, Fritz continued. Pre-pandemic, she and Ethan routinely travelled to Seattle for family visits.

Ethan's mom Alyssa Fritz said there simply wasn't time to spread the word in advance.

"I was in-between if it was a good or a bad idea," she said. "I couldn't pass it up, my son seeing his dad.

"We all went out of our way to make it happen."

We had heard and seen the plane (like wtf is it doing so close to the hill) but just now learned the story behind it

When we saw the plane up close we had no idea why it was there - Later we saw the story behind it - It came together so fast, Mom had no time to notify press. I teared a bit when I saw the story in the afternoon

I have seen lots of fighter jets down near Moose Jaw and at Cold Lake, Alberta. But, I aint seen a military cargo jet.

It sure was stunning to be looking at that monster coming right at us while looking horizontally

The main White Rock area is high on a hill above the waterfront 80 meters  ... so when I say looking at it coming at us "while looking horizontally" is not exaggeration. At one point it was a bit below horizontal

Ethan sure is a cutie pie  ... spitting image of my boy at that age ... even appears to have red hair .. was started first time I saw it
