Twitter Says Chinese Regime Tweets Denying 'Forced Labor' in Xinjiang Don't Violate Rules



A Twitter spokesperson told Fox News Thursday that recent tweets by China's communist regime denying the existence of forced labor in Xinjiang province and accusing the United States of making up lies about the documented human rights violations there do not break the social media platform's rules.



China's foreign ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying posted a series of tweets on Thursday, claiming that forced labor "is the biggest lie of the century aimed to restrict and suppress the relevant Chinese authorities and companies and contain China's development."



But according to widespread investigative reporting, China's communist authorities have ramped up their crackdown on ethnic Uyghur minorities in the Xinjiang region. This includes mass internment of around one million people, compulsory re-education programs, highly intrusive human and digital surveillance, religious suppression, enforced sterilization of women, and forced labor.



Recently, Twitter shut down the account of President Donald Trump in the wake of the Capitol riots last week, sparking allegations of suppression of free speech and exacerbating partisan divides. The company alleged that Trump had incited the violence.



Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey, in a tweet on Jan. 13, acknowledged that the company's decision to remove Trump was divisive and set a dangerous precedent.

Will Wilkinson, vice president for research at the Niskanen Center and a New York Times contributing opinion writer said Thursday that President Joe Biden would lynch former Vice President Mike Pence if he desires unity.



"'Aha! Biden proposes policies I dislike. HIS CALL FOR UNITY IS A LIE!!!' is all the forlorn conservative mind can seem to muster. Sad," Wilkinson tweeted, according to a screenshot.



"If Biden really wanted unity, he'd lynch Mike Pence," Wilkinson tweeted, according to the screenshot.



The tweet, posted at 12:33 a.m. Thursday, has since been deleted.



Twitter purged conservative accounts on a large scale after the Capitol riot in early January and after temporarily suspending former President Donald Trump's account. The company tweeted on Jan. 6 that three of Trump's tweets broke their "Civic Integrity' policy.

Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei on Thursday tweeted what appeared to be an ominous warning against former President Donald Trump.

Twitter did nothing to stop Antifa planning and promoting riots in Portland and Seattle weeks in advance, according to Journalist Andy Ngo, an expert on the anarcho-communist group.



At least 150 people gathered and participated in events punctuated by violence and destruction in the two states just hours after Joe Biden took the oath of office to become the 46th president of the United States on Jan. 20.



Wednesday's riots saw agitators in Portland smashing windows and vandalizing the offices of the state's Democratic Party, while in Seattle, the activists marched into the iconic Pike Place Market to smash up property, spray-paint buildings with an anarchist symbol, and smash windows, including at the William Kenzo Nakamura Courthouse, a federal building, according to KOMO.



"In Seattle and Portland, there were simultaneous riots that were pre-planned and organized, and also advertised weeks ahead of time on Twitter," Ngo said in an interview with The Epoch Times' American Thought Leaders program, ahead of the Feb. 2 publication of his book, "Unmasked: Inside Antifa's Radical Plan to Destroy Democracy."



"Twitter did nothing to take down some of these accounts that were promoting these riots," he said.



Twitter didn't immediately respond to a request for comment by The Epoch Times.

Using the wreckage of the Jan. 6 Capitol riots as leverage, corporate media and the pundit class postured themselves as the de facto arbiters of public opinion, and promptly set their sights on conservative media.



They took almost no time to pounce.



Within hours of the riots, corporate media reporters and pundits pointed to the presence of Proud Boys at the Capitol riots and organizing on social media. They implied or outright called for more censorship and encouraged the White House to enact new domestic surveillance powers. Naturally, deplatforming media companies that do not adhere to the dominant liberal orthodoxy became a subject of serious discussion.



Facebook's former chief security officer Alex Stamos alleged during a Jan. 17 segment of CNN's "Reliable Sources" that conservative influencers and media outlets have "abused" press freedom, and advocated deplatforming conservatives from both traditional and social media.
