An aerial banner attacking Democratic New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo flew over several of the state's most popular beaches Labor Day weekend.



The banner, towed behind a small plane like a typical shoreline advertisement, read "THE GOV KILLED NANA."



The banner was spotted over several local hotspots Saturday and appeared to be a reference to Cuomo's March order forcing nursing homes to accept COVID-positive or suspected patients — an order that many believe was at least partially responsible for the high number of coronavirus-related deaths in New York nursing homes.



One person who was at Rockaway Beach when the plane passed overhead reportedly told the New York Post that beachgoers had applauded the sign, adding, "The people were going crazy. [Cuomo] is nothing but a liar, condescending and miserable person. His carelessness caused the death of a lot of people unnecessarily."

Nearly 50,000 people signed a petition against Cuomo attending any Buffalo Bills' home playoff games after his COVID-19 restrictions prevented fans from attending any contests during the regular season.

His rigid COVID-19 vaccine rollout resulted in 66% unused and expired doses thrown out.

Then in a stunning statement after months of strict lockdown policies, Cuomo earlier this week tweeted that "we simply cannot stay closed until the vaccine hits critical mass. The cost is too high. We will have nothing left to open." (Indeed, it seems to be trend among left-wing office holders.)

You might recall that Fox News senior meteorologist Janice Dean has been a vocal critic of Cuomo's handling of New York nursing homes amid the coronavirus — particularly as she lost both of her in-laws to COVID-19 in 2020.



Earlier this week, Dean ripped Cuomo's botched coronavirus vaccine rollout, calling it a "disaster ... it is just another leadership failure from this governor," Fox News reported.



"I have been covering him for about 10 months, and I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that he is interested in being a celebrity instead of being a governor," she added, according to the cable network.



Then what?

Fox News contributor Guy Benson had the following to say in response: ' Wow, what an a**hole."



Then Meghan McCain and Megyn Kelly joined in to defend Dean:



"After @Janicedean lost BOTH her in-laws this year in NY nursing homes, instead of mourning with her and listening to her, Cuomo smears her," McCain — who co-hosts "The View" — tweeted. "There is blood on your hands Cuomo, and we all know it. You disgust me, you absolute heartless monster."

"@JaniceDean *is* an expert on how Cuomo's orders killed 6k+ ppl, including her in-laws," Kelly wrote. "She had to become one. B/c the media didn't give a damn. And when she spoke up, the media mocked her for going beyond weather — just like Cuomo did here. And all of those ppl can F right off."

New York Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo continues to be caught up in controversy over his failed leadership during the coronavirus pandemic, and now, left-wing media publications are finally starting to take notice.





What are the details?

The New York Times, though usually congratulatory toward Cuomo, published a blistering report Monday suggesting the governor had "all but declared war" on public health experts in his state, leading nine of them to quit their posts since the start of the pandemic.



The tipping point for many experts appears to have been the governor's autocratic takeover of the vaccine rollout, though it's hard to imagine that his obfuscating over a deadly nursing home policy that sowed public distrust in the health department hasn't also played a part. The report goes as follows:



Even as the pandemic continues to rage and New York struggles to vaccinate a large and anxious population, Mr. Cuomo has all but declared war on his own public health bureaucracy. The departures have underscored the extent to which pandemic policy has been set by the governor, who with his aides crafted a vaccination program beset by early delays.



The troubled rollout came after Mr. Cuomo declined to use the longstanding vaccination plans that the State Department of Health had developed in recent years in coordination with local health departments. Mr. Cuomo instead adopted an approach that relied on large hospital systems to coordinate vaccinations not only of their own staffs, but also of much of the population.



In recent weeks, the governor has repeatedly made it clear that he believed he had no choice but to seize more control over pandemic policy from state and local public health officials, who he said had no understanding of how to conduct a real-world, large-scale operation like vaccinations. After early problems, in which relatively few doses were being administered, the pace of vaccinations has picked up and New York is now roughly 20th in the nation in percentage of residents who have received at least one vaccine dose.



"When I say 'experts' in air quotes, it sounds like I'm saying I don't really trust the experts," Mr. Cuomo said at a news conference on Friday, referring to scientific expertise at all levels of government during the pandemic. "Because I don't. Because I don't."
