Owning new vehicles is nothing to brag about. Just about anyone with a face and a Walmart job can get into a lease or a car loan every three years. Even if your credit is dog shit a dealer will practically stand on their head or do cart wheels to get you into the drivers seat. I'll probably be trading in my 2017 GMC next year but who really give a fuck except me. I'm not looking to impress anyone with my ride. I graduated high school years ago.

I got my Grandfather's 4 year old GMH Commodore station Wagon when he died. Whacked a 186 motor (red motor)... it lasted me for 34 years and I sold it and the guy still drives it around.



I loved the station wagon... Threw the 3 Rhodesian Ridgebacks in the back and off we'd go to the bush chasing rabbits or the beach for a swim... It lasted for decades BECAUSE as fash said, older cars are easy to fix. New cars have to be serviced.

I'm a frugal nerd as well.... and I drove a Jetta years back.  It was one of my favorite cars.  I drive a Cadillac ATS now, but I needed all wheel drive and a heavy car for the PNW while maintaining my Angeleno bougie stylo.  I bought it on 12/13/14 which is a fascinating date to buy a car that I'll never forget... and I'll probably be driving her for at least another 5 years.  



There was FB challenge a while back where people posted pics of all the vehicles they have ever owned and I had 6 cars since I got my license.  I'm in my early 40s.

A boring middle class Camry that was totaled when a Vietnamese lady broadsided me going through a red light, a Sienna mini-van that I ran to the ground, and now a Honda that I plan to give over to my daughter and soonish.  



Cars are about getting from point A to point B.  When I was married we put our money into a home, not our cars.  That home is finally going through probate after my ex died, and my kids are going to benefit from the 7x increase in equity.



Seems like property is generally a better investment than vehicles.  I could drive a fancy car, but I've been putting 15% of my income into deferred compensation accounts.



It's not exciting, but I've been able to consider retiring.  It's just around the corner now. I will never have to answer to a boss ever again.  Thank God.
