293T cells have been growing unabated in laboratories since 1970s. The cells may have originated 40 some odd years ago from fetal tissue but fetal tissue is no longer used nor does it need to be in this case.



The Trump administration, US Ethics Board that governs the harvesting and use of fetal tissue recently shot down funding for fetal tissue research based on the insufficient justifications for the use of the tissue; failure to rationalize the amount of tissue sought and inadequacies in informed consent forms for people donating the fetal tissue. The complaint was that researchers had essentially passed on the task of complying with ethical requirements including informed consent, to a company supplying the fetal tissue.



In other words, funding was denied based on the ethical harvesting of fetal tissue NOT the need. The need still exists but it must be balanced with the ethical harvesting and use of said tissue. I guess in your childlike simplistic way of thinking this means nothing or was it just conveniently omitted?
