Tulsi Gabbard, the former Democratic representative from Hawaii, on Friday expressed concern that a proposed measure to combat domestic terrorism could be used to undermine civil liberties.



Gabbard's comments came during an appearance on Fox News Primetime when host Brian Kilmeade asked her if she was "surprised they're pushing forward with this extra surveillance on would-be domestic terror."



"It's so dangerous as you guys have been talking about, this is an issue that all Democrats, Republicans, independents, Libertarians should be extremely concerned about, especially because we don't have to guess about where this goes or how this ends," Gabbard said.



She continued: "When you have people like former CIA Director John Brennan openly talking about how he's spoken with or heard from appointees and nominees in the Biden administration who are already starting to look across our country for these types of movements similar to the insurgencies they've seen overseas, that in his words, he says make up this unholy alliance of religious extremists, racists, bigots, he lists a few others and at the end, even libertarians."



She said her concern lies in how officials will define the characteristics they are searching for in potential threats.



"What characteristics are we looking for as we are building this profile of a potential extremist, what are we talking about? Religious extremists, are we talking about Christians, evangelical Christians, what is a religious extremist? Is it somebody who is pro-life? Where do you take this?" Gabbard said.



She said the proposed legislation could create "a very dangerous undermining of our civil liberties, our freedoms in our Constitution, and a targeting of almost half of the country."



"You start looking at obviously, have to be a white person, obviously likely male, libertarians, anyone who loves freedom, liberty, maybe has an American flag outside their house, or people who, you know, attended a Trump rally," Gabbard said.



The Domestic Terrorism Prevention Act of 2021 was introduced in the House earlier this week in the aftermath of rioting at the U.S. Capitol earlier this month that left five dead.

The decision means fewer jobs in the short term for Indigenous people in constructing the pipeline and supplying goods and services for it, said Dale Swampy, president of the National Coalition of Chiefs.



It also implies more long-term unemployment for those who work in exploring and developing conventional and oilsands projects in Western Canada because it impedes investment in production growth, he said.



"It's quite a blow to the First Nations that are involved right now in working with TC Energy to access employment training and contracting opportunities," said Swampy.



"Within Alberta, First Nations are pretty closely entrenched with all of the activities occurring with the oil and gas industry. Any change, especially a big change like this, really affects our bands' ability to keep our people employed."



The demise of the pipeline means Natural Law Energy, which represents five First Nations in Alberta and Saskatchewan, will no longer be able to make an equity investment of up to $1 billion in Keystone XL, a plan announced by builder TC Energy Corp. in November that was expected to be extended to American Indigenous groups as well.

Former Rep. Tulsi Gabbard issued a dire warning to the American people on Tuesday, expressing concern that "domestic enemies" of the United States, in the national security community and Big Tech industry, are plotting to create a "police state" in America.



Gabbard, who served as the U.S. representative for Hawaii's 2nd Congressional District from 2013 to 2021, posted a video to social media in which she spoke out against efforts to expand the federal government's national security powers after the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol. In the video, she called out former CIA Director John Brennan and Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.), two leading proponents of expanding national security powers, labeling them "domestic enemies" of the country.



"The mob who stormed the Capitol on Jan. 6 to try to stop Congress from carrying out its constitutional responsibilities were behaving like domestic enemies of our country," Gabbard said. "But let's be clear, the John Brennans, Adam Schiffs and the oligarchs in Big Tech who are trying to undermine our constitutionally protected rights and turn our country into a police state with KGB-style surveillance are also domestic enemies — and much more powerful, and therefore dangerous, than the mob that stormed the Capitol."



Gabbard is calling on President Joe Biden and the Congress to defend American civil liberties.



"President Biden, I call upon you & all of Congress from both parties to denounce efforts by Brennan & others to take away our civil liberties endowed to us by our Creator & guaranteed in our Constitution. If you don't stand up to them now, then our country will be in great peril," she said.

Two Canada Post workers in Regina were temporarily suspended earlier this month after they refused to deliver the latest sample edition of the Epoch Times.



The head of the local CUPW union that represents postal workers said both mail carriers were escorted from the building when they informed their supervisors they were unwilling to deliver the publication. They were suspended without pay for three days.



According to its sample issue, the Epoch Times was created to "bring honest and uncensored news to people oppressed by deception and tyranny in communist China."

The report, Harms Reduction: A Six-Step Program To Protect Democratic Expression Online, recommends extensive new laters to protect against the "social harms" offensive internet speech brings.



The creator of the report was the Public Policy Forum, an Ottawa think tank that has received $2,848,329 in federal funding since 2019 according to Blacklock's Reporter.



"Ultimately it is the role of governments to protect against social harms, stand up for the targeted and assert the greater public interest through the appropriate governance of platforms, search engines and other intentional or incidental purveyors of this material," said the report.



The report recommends parliament pass a "Duty To Act Responsibly Law" which would create a federal tribunal to order offensive content be censored and issue fines.



"A process will be created to allow those feeling targeted by harms to be able to notify the creators of the disputed content of their complaints."



The Trudeau government had made internet censorship a priority going into 2021. Last year the government promised legislation to combat "online hate" and was looking into "legal remedies" to combat offensive content.
