I bet it does.  No other employer has that kind of power, nor should the government but I imagine such legislation would be met with a legal challenge.

Either way Fash, they will likely get their way on net zero.

My husband has had steady raises since the end of the recession and my pay has barely budged..

I know my favourite part of my job is the flexibility, but I would at least like regular pay increases equal to inflation..

It's getting very late here, so I must go to sleep..

Once again, I am so happy you have joined us.

 :)

Goodnight Ms. Real Woman.

this is exactly why i find it impossible to take you and your compadres seriously......liberals and dippers negotiating pay and pensions with their union brothers and sisters.....lets see, what could we compare that too......Hmmmm how about the vancouver PD investigating itself over tasering and killing innocent people and finding zero fault......jesus....the fucking liberals just opened the candy store and said.....cmon on in ..it's yours..... :ugeek:

and no...i blame successive socialist governments more than the union thugs for this debacle....we need to immediately roll back and/or scrap ALL government DB pensions in this country

I don't think that is a fair analogy and not just because my brother is a policeman.

it is not only fair but accurate.....government unions were given unnecessary over generous and unreasonable wage and pension increases by friendly fellow travellers in positions of authority for the last 40 years......it has to stop....govt. unions need to be de-certified and pension payouts scaled way back..........think Detroit

Take me seriously?  I just asked you a question and it reads that you agree with the premise of it takes two to tango.  Thank you for giving the government some credit rather than merely insulting unions.

I'm sorry but I'm going to have to reply more when I get to my desk.  I need to look some things up because you've spouted off without anything concrete backing it.  So I'm going to need a minute.

I have no problem with private sector unions, but there is no way the civil service should be allowed to organize.

So you think it is demonstrably justified in a free and democratic society to limit the Charter right of freedom of association as it pertains to public sector workers?

Private-sector unions fight with management over an equitable distribution of profits. Government unions negotiate with friendly politicians over taxpayer money, putting the public interest at odds with union interests, and, as we've seen in states such as California and Wisconsin, exploding the cost of government. California's pension costs soared 2,000 percent in a decade thanks to the unions.

The labor-politician negotiations can't be fair when the unions can put so much money into campaign spending. Victor Gotbaum, a leader in the New York City chapter of AFSCME, summed up the problem in 1975 when he boasted, "We have the ability, in a sense, to elect our own boss."

This is why FDR believed that "the process of collective bargaining, as usually understood, cannot be transplanted into the public service," and why even George Meany, the first head of the AFL-CIO, held that it was "impossible to bargain collectively with the government."

not only justified ....it should be a criminal offense for public workers to organize and automatic jail time if they strike.......ALL public sector workers should have their wages and benefits scaled back between 25% and 50% effective immediately......thereafter any increases should be tied to inflation.

Firstly we need to take that fucking charter and use it to lite a major bonfire.....hopefully with the 9 supremes tied to a stake above it........... :ugeek:

Lol, Real Woman is new. I don't want her to think our only past time is insulting Fash's job.

Okay, you've stated it should be a criminal offense for public workers to organize but you have yet to state the grounds for such a restriction to a public sector worker's Charter freedoms.  So why should it be criminal?

So you think public workers are overpaid.  Why?  How much do they make that you find out of line?  What benefits do they have that are excessive?

Wage increases are generally tied to inflation rates as is.

I have to ask, are you aware of the economic benefit to people having money to spend as a means of supporting an economy?

There is no difference between union-government bargaining and a scenario where two hungry vultures (one union business agent, plus one government bargaining representative) and one bunny rabbit (uninformed taxpayer) are voting on what to have for dinner.
