Socialism is disgusting...

Yup... dumb, greedy, entitled, worthless, unskilled lazy bums' own short comings should never be the society's responsibility.

And now we have socialism for billionaires like the Weston family.....it's to save the planet.

 :001_rolleyes:

IMO all companies should run based upon a supply and demand model, otherwise they don't deserve to exist.  If they need to sponge off tax payers to survive, then it's not really a business from a honest perspective.

Governments pick winners and losers. Green energy in particular gets the lion's share of taxpayer largesse and we get stuck with higher electricity costs. It pisses me off.

How about you get those things for yourself, if you want them, and the government can stop stealing from people....

Excuse me, I have worked all my life for them. I am not some lazy bum like the ilk on VF.

You've worked for a promise that you'll get those things... not the actual dollar amount of what you put into the hat and what you'll get back.

It's basically a pyramid scheme of unfunded liabilities and a generation onwards will be left with nothing when these schemes go kaput.

Maybe you'll luck out, but somebody will be told to kick dirt...

Than you don't understand how insurance works. I pay a premium, so does CP. I can use certain basket of extended health and wellness benefits up to a maximum.

Our pension plan fund is in good shape. Unlike our national pension, it is wisely invested.

Real socialism was about workers sharing in the success . What is called socialism today is all about eliminating opportunities for working people.

Is your private pension plan market based or exposed to the markets? Insurance only works if a far fewer people need it as well.

Any public or private scheme promising a guarantee or return equal to or greater than the contributions to it is fundamentally flawed.

Even at a one for one ratio... (ie one 1993 dollar versus one 2021 dollar) is flawed as inflation rises and buying power reduces.

To be fair, individuals planning for their futures by investing in 401k/superannuation schemes, precious metals, stocks, and property can become unstuck as well....according to market whims and just plain bad investments.

The difference is on who the onus falls on when things fail to deliver and the exposure of individuals versus whole groups or nations.

Insurance plans (investments the same), aren't designed to give back to all the investors. They're ponzi schemes.

Better for individuals to fail than entire groups... at least the groups will care for their friends, families, and loved ones.

Are you really this ignorant of how sovereign wealth funds work? That is really what our pension fund is.

Our extended medical benefits are entirely different. They are flexible, but with a cap. Once we have spent it, we wait until the new year and start again.

So in Canada, you pay into medical shit but there is no guarantee you'll get the necessary return you were promised?

Oh, Le Whoops, Mr Smith... sorry, but we've overspent so we won't be able to give you a triple bypass in 2021. Please try again next year. Have a nice day!  :001_rolleyes:

CP's pension fund is one of larger ones in the world with assets approaching one half trillion US dollars.

I'm not talking about public medicare. I have private insurance through my company in which my employer and I share premiums. If costs go up, so do my premiums. But, often my company picks up the premium increases in lieu of smaller annual wage increases.

And can you stop and start your premiums or do you have to stay in it thick and thin?

That's a ponzi scheme....

It must be different in Australia..

Employees here want benefits and negotiate with management to get them..

My husband gets $1900 dental per person under the age of twenty one in my family..

Combined with my medical we haven't paid one dollar for twenty years of expensive dental work..

I'm so thankful for our extended medical benefits.....an excellent perk and a worthy expense.

He doesn't understand what extended medical benefits are, let alone how they can be used or their annual cap.

But in a democratic capitalist nation, there is really nothing from stopping from the workers to start up their own business and distribute the net profit among themselves.

The government decides which businesses are allowed today. This federal government has chased away nearly 200 billion dollars in natural resource investments along with hundreds of thousands of good jobs.

Ok, Marx...

He aint wrong. Some employers offer those benefits as part of their compensation package. You seem to think it works like US Social Security. It doesn't.
