Thirteen U.S. troops were killed on Thursday in the bombings in Kabul, Afghanistan.



More than a dozen others were wounded, CENTCOM Commander General Kenneth McKenzie told reporters in a briefing conducted hours after the attack.



Twelve deaths were initially announced; among them were 11 Marines and one Navy medic. Another Marine was reported to have died hours later.



Kabul health officials were quoted as saying that at least 60 Afghan civilians were killed in the attack, reported Reuters.

The United States will strike ISIS in retaliation for bombings in Kabul that left a dozen U.S. troops dead, President Joe Biden said on Thursday.



"To those who carried out this attack, as well as anyone who wishes America harm, know this: we will not forgive. We will not forget. We will hunt you down and make you pay. I'll defend our interests and our people with every measure at my command," Biden said from the White House in Washington.



The president has directed military officials to draw up plans to strike ISIS facilities and fighters.

Some of the Taliban's top leaders are gathering in Kabul to discuss the formation of a new Afghan government -- including a representative from the Haqqani network, the country's most feared militants.



The Haqqanis have been blamed for some of the deadliest attacks in recent years, claiming the lives of civilians, government officials and foreign forces.



Despite their reputation, they are expected to be powerful players in the new regime following the Taliban's takeover of Afghanistan last week.



- Who are the Haqqanis? - Well, the original  Mujahideen who beat the Russians



The shadowy group was formed by Jalaluddin Haqqani, who gained prominence in the 1980s as a hero of the anti-Soviet jihad. At the time, he was a valuable CIA asset as the United States and its allies such as Pakistan funnelled arms and money to the mujahideen.



During that conflict and following the Soviet withdrawal, Jalaluddin Haqqani fostered close ties with foreign jihadists -- including Osama bin Laden.

The U.S. military carried out a counterterrorism drone strike against a member of the ISIS-K terrorist group in Afghanistan early on Aug. 28 local time, according to U.S. Central Command.



In a statement, CENTCOM spokesman Capt. Bill Urban said that the U.S. military forces "conducted an over-the-horizon counterterrorism operation today against an ISIS-K planner."



"Initial indications are that we killed the target," he said. "We know of no civilian casualties."

Against the overall failed situation, killing a couple of ISIS K is moot .. and merely an attempt to move focus off the overall massive  and multi-faceted US failure .. akin to peeing in the ocean and claiming you have changed it
