Look at this shit I just watched last night.... about 6 episodes where an eco terrorist group decides to use a bacteria originally designed to break down oil spills in the ocean to poison EVERY fucking oil operation around the world at the same time.... planes are dropping out of the skies.... passenger vehicles bursting into flames.... people are on foot, far from homes, hungry, thirsty, with little barrel wash available....

No, the US did not instigate this war, Putin did.  To find out why (as opposed to Putin's propaganda bull shit) read some Peter Zeihan.  Short version: Russia's Demographically dying as a nation, it geography is indefensible,  in WW2 the only thing they could do was throw endless manpower at the enemy but now it just doesn't have the needed manpower, Putin wants to annex former USSR states to give them more time, and ultimately he wants to reach nine specific geographic choke points.  That way Russia can deploy defensive forces in those geographic choke points.



The problem?  Many of those choke points are in NATO and this would mean Russia is trying to control 300 million people which is twice the Russian population. Russia sees this as an existential crisis and that their country dies unless they get it though. Thus why this is scary as fuck and why we need to stop their expansion in Ukraine otherwise Putin will launch WW3.
