This Ukraine temporary crisis is making the Biden regime look like amateurs.

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said Thursday that Russia's military invasion of Ukraine is likely only part of Russian President Vladimir Putin's designs for the European continent.

Politico reported Thursday that Putin was "playing Biden all along." Reuters, too, reported that Biden's negotiating returned zero results.

They applied not even "medium" level sanctions, which must have Putin rolling on the floor in laughter

There are sanctions the West could have applied that would cripple him, but the balls to do that are missing

To really impose pain on Russia, the U.S. and Europe will have to bear some burden, too — although, fortunately, there are ways to minimize the fallout for Western economies.

At this moment of maximum leverage (now mainly gone as attack has begun) , the U.S. would have had to signal clearly that if Putin orders an invasion, it would have quickly imposed massive, immediate costs on the Russian economy as a whole, not just a few limited targets. It was up to the Biden administration to show it was prepared to absorb some economic and political damage to prevent Putin from choosing war.

Er... before you go wailing on Biden and Europe for "meekness" (and you will know I am no Biden fan), imposing the harshest responses from the get go will in itself create a problem.

You will have spent all your ammunition before the game is over.

The West will not impose maximum force yet because it will need something in its pocket if they can get Russia to the negotiating table. It must hold back on some measures to encourage an opportunity for diplomacy.

It's how the game is played.

I got to hand it to old Putin, he is a smart mofo. He goes and signs trade deals with India, China, South Korea and some other Asian countries to increase wheat and energy exports to offset European sanctions. He starts using cryptocurrency as payment. All of this well before he started massing troops on Ukraine's border.

While definitely all good moves, I see all of them merely as "what one would naturally do" & obvious .. nothing requiring special brilliance
