Whilst the argument about NATO's provocative expansion no doubt put Russia under pressure, these "blame the West" guiltmakers constantly ignore the behaviour of Russia on the world's stage.



To back away from Russia and disarm requires a massive degree of trust on BOTH sides. Before we start pointing fingers, consider the crucial fact that Russia has a powerful nuclear arsenal. And where are its nukes aimed?



No discussion about peace in Europe can ignore Russia's massive nuclear capability, but all these "academics" and "experts" who offer commentary on the "chicken or the egg" concept of blame constantly ignore this core issue.



Russia wants NATO to back off, but it still maintains the means of destroying all of Europe, and has indicated that it would use this weaponry if necessary.



Russia's behaviour as a member of the European community has been deplorable at best. Assassinations in other countries using poisons are bad enough, but when confronted with evidence of their crime, they lie, deceive and berate Western lies. Russia is not a country you can deal with and have faith in any agreement. It has no respect for the West.



NATO knew what it was doing. Keeping the bear in its cage is the only way to guarantee peace with a nuclear armed, highly militarised nation that has no qualms using force to implement foreign policy. NATO needs to withdraw and disarm, but only when Russia's nuclear force is put on the table.

There has never been a nuclear war. Russia gets just as many kudos for avoiding it at all costs as the rest of the nuclear capable nations.

I have a very mutt background but a lot of it is Scandinavian and Western European. My ancestors could be very barbaric. I don't condone their actions despite my genetics.
