Not proper vetting is always a loser / very bad idea

Then, have we ever seen any good ideas from our guy in Ottawa?

I am Ukrainian, but I admit the country is corrupt as hell and has a lot of bad people and organized crime. Guaranteed, a lot of unsavoury elements will see this as an easy opportunity. Many of them will not even be from Ukraine.

This is the same reason why I don't want HKers to come to Canada, a lot of them have their head stuck up their ass syndrome.

My husband thinks the announcement of fast tracking Ukrainians into Canada is about votes.

Your old man is right. Bringing in all those Syrians was about buying Muslim votes. This aint no different.

Skilled vetted immigrants from Ukraine or Hong Kong are okay. But, what was proposed after the crackdowns in Hong Kong and now the invasion of Ukraine means anybody can come and that is inviting trouble. Old Shen Li is right about that.

There is also a lot of gangsters in HK and from the mainland who would take advantage of opening the floodgates without asking any questions. It's insane.

I wouldn't mind the best to come here, but sadly the a lot have gone through so much insane financial(paying off mortgage) and work stress(min wage si only $6 CAD in HK) it's like they have some kind of PTSD crippling their ability to socialize normally.  ac_unsure

Canada. like Israel has an immigration policy of more is better. I disagree with that approach.

I'm sure Canada can use HK permanent residence ID as a proof they're really from HK.  ac_cool

I agree. Skilled, vetted immigrants that pay fees and have the means of support when they get here are an asset. However, when you open the floodgates and don't do proper screening, you get what you get. In fact, you don't know who you get. It's dangerous and offers no benefit to the host nation.

You don't think a few fake ones slip through the system. Particularly when they have money. It's amazing how many mainlanders who have amassed questionable wealth are in possesion of HK residency.

Who knows how many people have received Israeli citizenship with fraudulent documents. It is high, I know that.

That's true, though I don't think it hurts letting the wealthy mainland Chinese come over to Canada.  I heard from my brother's friend that works in immigration Canada that they have raised the bar, requiring 3 million CAD of investment in order to immigrate here, lol.

I have no problem with investor visas, so long as they are properly screened. No triad drug money need apply.

I think most Canadians want all immigrants, skilled migrants, investors or refugees to have their backgrounds checked.

There are too many immigrants. No wonder working Canadians cannot buy their first home in any city in this country. But, if we do have to take immigrants, it's better to invite them from places like Ukraine or Hong Kong. They are easy to assimilate. Anywhere in Africa, not so much.
