The valley the town lies in looks like you're walking on the moon or Arizona.

Drum is a terrific day trip for Albertans or people visiting this province.

Went on a long walk with the Squish and we hung out at a local horse farm and pet and fed horses

My very first job, before I was even old enough to legally have one, was mucking out stalls at a horse stable.

Until then I had NO IDEA just how flatulent horses are.

Like a scene out of 'Blazing Saddles'... first one stall would sound off, then another from the other side, then down the way, then right next door, then...

Fookin' 'ell, it was constant! LoL

Fuck's sake I wasn't near old enough to drive and you want me to remember what some horses I tended one summer had for brunch?

You greatly overestimate my ability to remember stuff, lass. Muahaha

I might even be carrying around an exaggerated memory of the whole thing, but not by much I don't think.

It wasn't that any one horse was constantly tooting...

...it was that in a whole stable full of horses it seemed like at least one was almost always blowing a little tune on the ol' butt trumpet.

Even so I didn't mind the horses; they hardly ever tried to kick or bite me.

There was an asshole of a goat that would sneak up behind us and try to displace a hip or leg socket, though.

That little bastard I could have done without. LoL

I suppose you could call it semi-rural.

There was lots of woods, Carvin's Cove was nearby (biking distance anyway), and that kind of stuff.

Seems like I spent most of my childhood either in a tree or wading through a creek.

The Appalachian Trail was also really closeby; this is a picture taken at MacAfee's Knob, practically in my own back yard at that time, on one Boy Scouts camping trip:

It looks lovely.

Much later, after I'd grown up and moved from that neighborhood, I heard they were trying to ban/discourage overnight camping at MacAfee's Knob because people were leaving too much trash, tagging the big rocks, etc.

Such a shame... it really is/was a nice spot to camp at the end of an afternoon's hike.
