I saw The Fabulous Thunderbirds in a bar back in the mid-70s.  Shot the shit with Jimmy Vaughn during a break. Formed in 1974, it wasn't until 1986 that they produced a top-10 hit with this classic:

I've seen 38 Special a coupla times. Formed 1974 in Jacksonville, FL, by Donnie Van Zant and Don Barnes, they remain one of the blue blood Southern rock bands. This great number was written by Jim Peterek and Barnes. FYI, Peterek is a legend in his own right, having been in The Ides of March and Survivor. And Donnie Van Zant is brother to Ronnie (RIP) and Johnnie Van Zant, both of Lynyrd Skynyrd fame:
