Elected officials in California are carrying on with business as usual, even after their constituents voted overwhelmingly to send them packing.

An election was held on April 28 in the California city of Avenal in Kings County, where the mayor, Alvaro Preciado, and three city council members — Leticia Gamez, David Reynosa, and Pablo Hernandez — were recalled with at least 76% of voters backing the ouster in each case. The Kings County Registrar of Voters certified the recall election.

Preciado, Gamez, and Hernandez voted on June 11 to reject the will of the electorate and remain in office. They even approved a new city budget despite recall advocates producing a restraining order, reported the SF Chronicle.

Those officials clinging to power, including Reynosa, maintain that the recall election was conducted unlawfully by Kings County and without the council's authorization.

Preciado told the SF Chronicle last month that he was staying in office until a judge decides on the recall's legality.

A county supervisor figures California AG Bonta would take more interest if the recalled pariahs were MAGA.

The Federal Trade Commission is finally suing the World Professional Association for Transgender Health over sweeping recommendations for pediatric gender medicine that allegedly rested on weak evidence and conjecture.

WPATH has disregarded basic standards of medical honesty for years. Although the complaint was filed only recently, the organization's indifference to evidence — and to the safety of gender-confused children — has long been apparent.

In 2022, WPATH removed minimum-age recommendations from its standards of care, reportedly under pressure from then-Assistant Secretary for Health Rachel Levine, a transgender-identifying male.

Trump announced on July 7 that he is working to lift sanctions preventing Turkey from obtaining F-35 Lightning II stealth fighter jets.

Turkey was an early partner on the F-35 program but was barred from obtaining the advanced aircraft after purchasing Russian S-400 air defense systems in 2019. These S-400 purchases ran afoul of the 2017 Countering America's Adversaries Through Sanctions Act.

"We're going to be taking the sanctions off," Trump told reporters, following a meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Ankara on July 7. "It's time to do that."
