Because they were defenceless, out in the open, and their own tribes/people in Africa were profiting from catching them and dragging them into ports for the eager buyers.



So Black slaves were the short-lived latecomers to the game (sure, Blacks had been slaves for millennia before, and they toiled with anybody else in the wrong spot at the wrong time. Colour didn't matter. Bodies did.). Point is, the timespan of the African slave trade was just a flash in the pan in the grand scheme of things.



How many Irish were enslaved over the last 2-3k years?



The Vikings for many centuries.... England off and on during the same time .... the US in the 1800's and a decent chunk in the early 1900's.



How many Irishmen and "Chinamen" lived in squalor building the railroads and being buried in shallow graves along them.

I admit that was funny. However, when I was in uni, there were no white females in engineering programs. There were other women of course, but not one was white. The white girls were pursuing really important degrees in things like film studies and philosophy.
