After two deaths, approximately 53,000 hoverboards are being recalled due to fire risks, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) said Thursday.

The voluntary recall impacts certain Jetson Rogue self-balancing scooters -- also known as hoverboards -- which were sold at Target and on the company's website.

CPSC said a 10-year-old girl and her 15-year-old sister died from an April 2022 fire in Hellertown, Pennsylvania. Local officials determined that a 42-volt Jetson Rogue was the point of origin of the fire, according to a news release from CPSC, which also said "the cause of the fire was undetermined."

But the agency said the lithium-ion battery packs in the hoverboards can overheat, posing a fire hazard. CPSC also said it was aware of other reports of the recalled scooters "burning, sparking or melting, several of which involved reports of flames."

CPSC advised consumers to "immediately" stop using and stop charging the recalled 42-volt version of the self-balancing scooters and contact Jetson for a full refund.

In a statement, Jetson said the voluntary recall was "out of an abundance of caution."

They look like a lot of fun for a kid. I want to get one for my three year old granddaughter. My old lady thinks she is too young for one.

Same thing as riding a skateboard, pretty much.

Twitter Inc. has merged with a company called "X Corp." and no longer exists, according to federal filings reported by Forbes.

The filing also lists X Corp.'s parent company as "X Holdings Corp."

"X Corp. is a privately held corporation. Its parent corporation is X Holdings Corp. No publicly traded corporation owns 10% or more of the stock of X Corp. or X Holdings Corp.," the document reads.

Twitter CEO Elon Musk had previously spoken about creating a "super app" similar to China's WeChat, which Forbes describes as an app that "provides audio and video calls and one-to-one text messages, plus the ability to create group threads containing up to 500 people."

Walmart has removed a recycling-themed shirt from sale after a viral Twitter post pointed out a vulgar acronym hidden within the design.

The shirt featured large lettering reading "RE" on the left, with the words "cycle," "use," "new" and "think" written in smaller lettering on the right. The intended takeaway, apparently, was for onlookers to interpret the message as four distinct words: "recycle," "reuse," "renew" and "rethink."

But the lettering on the right side of the shirt, when read vertically, spelled out an inappropriate four-letter word.

"I need this shirt before Walmart realizes what they have done," wrote the Twitter user in a now-viral post containing an image of the shirt. "Find the hidden word."

A Target security guard punched a woman in the face after she reportedly chased him into an office over the store refused her "reparations" of $1,000 in groceries.

The New York Post, citing a police report, said the incident took place in October in Blue Ash, Ohio, when Karen Ivery asked a cashier for the manager regarding the bill and reparations.

The cashier told authorities that Ivery brought up reparations several times during their brief interaction before the manager arrived, the paper said, citing the report.

When speaking with the manager, the customer first asked for reparations and then grew angry as she walked "aggressively" toward the manager, the Post said, citing the report.

"Ivery kept berating her about reparations and her privileged life," the report said, according to the Post, as the customer continued walking toward the manager.

But Ivery allegedly began screaming at Cotter and followed him to his office, the Post reported.

When he tried to shut the door, Ivery allegedly forced her way into the office — and Cotter threw a punch, the Post added, citing the report. Ivery fell to the floor after the wallop.

With that, Zach Cotter — a loss-prevention officer — intervened and asked Ivery to calm down and leave the store, the paper noted, citing the report.

A church in North Carolina has again unburdened thousands of families who were struggling with medical debt, setting their obligations ablaze.

Trinity Moravian Church in Winston-Salem bought up and canceled nearly $3.3 million in medical debt belonging to 3,355 families.

According to the Dispatch, this is the second year that members of the church have taken part in the Debt Jubilee Project, which assumes past-due medical bills of residents in the area. Through the project, congregants previously purchased $1.65 million of debt, liberating 1,356 people in Forsyth and Davidson Counties.
