Nearly half of Canadian university students are hiding their real beliefs.

When campuses become hostile to free thought, young people stop learning and start surviving.

Universities were meant to be spaces of rigorous debate and intellectual curiosity—not tax-funded institutions pushing a singular ideology.

If they don't return to their true mandate of fostering open dialogue, they risk becoming irrelevant to the very future they claim to serve.

The Powerball jackpot has soared to an estimated $1.8 billion ahead of Saturday night's drawing.

There are two pretax options if you win: a lump sum, or one immediate payout followed by 29 yearly payments that increase by 5% annually. The lump sum is estimated at $826.4 million, while the annuity is worth an estimated $1.80 billion.

The Powerball jackpot winner can expect a large upfront federal tax withholding. The IRS requires a mandatory 24% withholding for prizes that exceed $5,000.

If you choose the $826.4 million cash option, the 24% federal tax withholding automatically reduces your winnings by $198.3 million.

You may also owe state taxes, depending on where you live and where you purchased the ticket. Some states have no income tax or don't tax lottery winnings, but others have top-income state tax brackets exceeding 10%.

Powerball isn't the only chance to win big. The jackpot for Friday night's Mega Millions drawing now stands at an estimated $336 million. The chance of hitting the jackpot in that game is roughly 1 in 290.4 million.

Chagas disease, an illness transmitted by "kissing bugs," is now considered endemic in the United States, the University of California–Los Angeles (UCLA) said in a Sept. 2 post, citing a recent report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Kissing bugs—also known as conenose or barber bugs—transmit the parasite Trypanosoma cruzi to humans, which causes Chagas disease.

The bugs bite humans to access blood. After that, these bugs deposit their droppings containing the parasites onto human skin. If the droppings get into the body, via a cut or through the eyes or mouth, the individual may end up getting infected.

For instance, when a person scratches the bite, the parasites may enter the wound and into the bloodstream. The CDC warned that the illness can potentially lead to sudden death in some individuals.

Scientists have found something they are calling the strongest sign of possible life beyond the solar system after finding a chemical footprint that can only be produced by living organisms.

The James Webb Space Telescope (Webb) found allowed researchers to find traces of two gases – dimethyl sulfide (DMS) and dimethyl disulfide (DMDS) – on a planet named K2-18b. The plant sits 700 trillion miles, or 124 light years, away from us, and is around two-and-a-half times the size of Earth. But the Webb is so powerful that it can analyse the chemical composition of the planet's atmosphere from the light that passes through from the small red Sun it orbits.

On Earth, DMS and DMDS are mostly generated by living organisms like algae. So it strongly suggests that K2-18b could be teeming with microbial life. Before we get too excited, this is not an announcement that life has been found but rather an indicator of a biological process. But it's exciting as K2-18b orbits in the 'habitable zone' – a distance where liquid water can exists on a planetary surface.

Roughly $60 million per year plus one immediate payment of the same amount.

We all remember the famous Food Guide Pyramid developed in the 1990s that supposedly captures what a healthy diet looks like. The base of the model is made up of grains, followed by vegetables, fruits, dairy, proteins, and topped by a small section for fats and sweets.

It was a helpful tool that guided Americans in cultivating a healthy lifestyle for themselves and their families.

Except it wasn't, because the model is fundamentally flawed.

"Around the middle of the 20th century, we started to see what were called diseases of civilization. ... We started seeing obesity and diabetes and coronary heart disease and all the things that go with the modern lifestyle." "The problem was, our scientific experts identified the wrong culprit. They thought that the problem was the foods that people had been eating for thousands of years."

This led to foods like eggs, butter, and meat being vilified, hence their small category on the food pyramid. Instead, "experts" pushed for making carbohydrates — especially highly processed ones like breads, pastas, and cereals — the largest staple in people's diets.

The idea that foods refined by man are superior to foods from the earth is rooted in the prideful assumption that science supersedes, and even controls, nature.

A former commercial airline pilot pleaded guilty in federal court on Friday for trying to shut off the engines of a Horizon Airlines jet mid-flight in 2023. Joseph Emerson now faces up to 20 years in prison on the federal charge. Emerson, who was not piloting the jet but sitting in a cockpit jump seat, said he had taken hallucinogenic "magic mushrooms" before the flight, which was carrying 84 people.

Sam Cooper is an investigative journalist and publisher of The Bureau. We discuss recent revelations around Canada's refusal to cooperate with American law enforcement agencies investigating fentanyl manufacturing and distribution networks, how this corresponds with Trump's rising tariffs on Canadian exports, and why the RCMP, BC NDP and Carney Liberal government appear to be covering for organized crime groups.

China's state-owned broadcaster has rescinded international wire agency access to hot mic video footage of Chinese and Russian leaders discussing longevity and organ transplants, an effort that shows the Chinese regime's fear of attention on the topic, critics say.

The open mic exchange between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese leader Xi Jinping took place in Beijing on Sept. 3, as the two leaders walked together ahead of a military parade commemorating World War II.

The conversation became global news and sparked discussions about the Chinese regime's state-sanctioned forced organ harvesting, a taboo topic in China. CCTV has since taken down the livestream video that captured the exchange and removed the moment from replays.

Xi, at the parade, told Putin that "these days at 70 you are still a child," prompting Putin to remark that continued organ transplants could allow one to live younger and even reach immortality. Xi, in response, said it is predicted that there's a chance of humans living to 150 years old.

I think it means that organ donation is mandatory.
