The city of Chicago opened all 22 area beaches on Friday morning. However, one of the busiest beaches was closed only hours after opening because gunshots rang out.



Chicago's North Avenue Beach opened at 11 a.m. on Friday. Police responded to several shots fired around 1:26 p.m. in the 1600 block of North Lake Shore Drive at the North Avenue Beach.



Video shows two groups of teens angrily confronting each other before gunshots erupt. There were approximately 100 people in the area when the shooting occurred. Video shows the windows of a Chicago Park District truck shot out.



The North Avenue Beach was immediately closed, as was the nearby bike path.



WBBM-TV reported, "Police said a group of young men got into a fight on the beach when someone pulled out a gun and started shooting."



Police arrested a 15-year-old boy, who they claim was the shooter. The suspect was charged with one count of aggravated assault discharge of firearm, and one count of criminal damage to property worth $500 to $10,000, both felonies.

The White House and Republicans have reached an agreement in principle to raise the debt ceiling and avert a default, according to multiple reports.



Several news outlets are reporting that President Joe Biden and House Speaker Kevin McCarthy have reached a tentative deal to raise the nation's debt ceiling, narrowly avoiding the first default in United States history. Following a months-long standoff, the two sides reportedly struck a deal to raise the nation's $31.4 trillion debt ceiling.

The debt ceiling bill released on Sunday included a provision to expedite approval of the stalled Mountain Valley Pipeline, a 303-mile natural gas pipeline project that extends from West Virginia to Virginia.



If Congress approves the debt ceiling package, the pipeline, which is 94% complete, is expected to generate 2,500 construction jobs, $40 million in tax revenue for West Virginia, and $10 million for Virginia. It is anticipated to transport approximately 2 billion cubic feet of natural gas daily to consumers in the southeast.



The completion of the pipeline repeatedly has been stalled for years over environmental concerns and lengthy permitting processes.
