Alleged ransom note received as search for Nancy Guthrie continues in Tucson area

CATALINA FOOTHILLS, AZ — Pima County sheriff's deputies are asking for the public's help in locating Nancy Guthrie, the mother of Savannah Guthrie, a co-anchor of NBC's Today Show, who is believed to have been taken from her home.

Officials are investigating the incident as a "crime," and authorities said Monday they believe Nancy may have been kidnapped from her Catalina Foothills home while she was sleeping, ABC News reports.

On Tuesday, the Pima County Sheriff's Office acknowledged it is aware of reports circulating about possible ransom note(s) regarding Guthrie. The office stated, "We are taking all tips and leads very seriously. Anything that comes in, goes directly to our detectives who are coordinating with the FBI."

KGUN, the Scripps station in Tucson, received a ransom note referencing Nancy Guthrie. It makes a specific demand for several million dollars in Bitcoin by Thursday and threatens to kill her if payment is not received by Monday. It also makes specific reference to two pieces of evidence at the crime scene, which we can not authenticate as legitimate. KGUN has forwarded the full contents of the note to investigators and authorities.
