Judge Approves $345 Million Verdict Against Greenpeace in Pipeline Suit

A North Dakota judge finalized a potentially fatal verdict against Greenpeace on Friday, affirming a $345 million jury award against the storied environmental group that Greenpeace has said may force it into bankruptcy.

The verdict was reached last year after a bruising trial brought by the pipeline company Energy Transfer over Greenpeace's role in protests against the Dakota Access Pipeline, an 1,172-mile pipeline that carries oil from North Dakota to Illinois.

Energy Transfer claimed Greenpeace had played a major role in the protests a decade ago, forcing construction delays and costing the company money. Greenpeace has said that the lawsuit, which was argued last year in state court in Mandan, N.D., was baseless and designed to silence it, and that the verdict undermined free-speech rights in the United States.

Greenpeace said it would seek a new trial and, if necessary, file an appeal to the North Dakota Supreme Court.

Senegalese man wearing a property of Allah hoodie shot and killed 3 people and injured 14 others in a bar attack in Texas.

It's not white trannies this time. This is an old fashioned Islamic inspired terror attack.

QuoteThe gunman, who was shot and killed by police, was wearing a sweatshirt that said "Property of Allah" during the attack, according to two sources familiar with the investigation. The description matches a photo obtained by Fox News that appears to show the gunman carrying a long gun.

There were indicators on the suspect and in his vehicle that suggest a "potential nexus to terrorism," FBI Acting Special Agent Alex Doran said during a briefing Sunday, though he cautioned that it was too early to determine the motive.

Officials executed a search warrant at the gunman's home on Sunday and found an Iranian flag and pictures of Iranian leaders, according to an official with direct knowledge of the investigation. Sources told CBS News that the Quran was found in the gunman's vehicle.

The shooter was identified by Austin police as 53-year-old Ndiaga Diagne. Multiple U.S. officials told CBS News he was a naturalized American citizen born in Senegal.

Investigators believe the gunman acted alone. Police say he had a handgun and a rifle during the attack.

Two law enforcement sources told CBS News that investigators say the shooter had had prior mental health episodes in Austin. They are looking at whether the shooter was influenced by extremist ideology and if there is a nexus to international terrorism, but cautioned that the individual had prior mental health issues.

Columbia University — an institution whose radicalism frequently spills out into the streets of Manhattan — is trying to distance itself from Columbia University Apartheid Divest after the coalition of student extremists echoed Iranian dictator Ali Khamenei's go-to motto following his assassination on Saturday.

CUAD, a coalition of anti-Israel student groups that purportedly operates "outside of the purview of a registered student organization," didn't take the news of Khamenei's death particularly well, calling it "devastating news."

In another social media post, which has since been deleted, the student group wrote, "Marg bar Amrika."

This Persian phrase, which means "Death to America," was one of the dead ayatollah's go-to slogans.

"The slogan and shout of 'Death to the U.S.' by the Iranian nation has strong logical and rational support and stems from the Constitution and fundamental thoughts that brooks no injustice and oppression," Khamenei stated a decade ago. "This slogan means death to the policies of the U.S. and arrogant powers and this logic is accepted by every nation when explained in clear terms."

CUAD noted in a subsequent tweet that was taken down by Elon Musk's X for violating the platform's rules, "X forced use[sic] to delete our 'marg bar amrika' tweet in order to gain back access to our account but the sentiment still stands."

Father found guilty for giving gun to son before Georgia school shooting

A Georgia man whose teenage son is accused of killing two students and two teachers at a high school was convicted of second-degree murder and involuntary manslaughter Tuesday.

Colin Gray also was found guilty of all other charges in the September 2024 shooting at Apalachee High School in Winder, northeast of Atlanta. Gray is one of a number of parents across the country who have been charged after their children were accused in fatal shootings.

He was found guilty of second-degree murder in the deaths of two 14-year-old students, Mason Schermerhorn and Christian Angulo. Georgia law defines second-degree murder as causing the death of a child by committing the crime of cruelty to children. Gray was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter in the killings of teachers Richard Aspinwall, 39, and Cristina Irimie, 53.

Prosecutors said Gray gave his son, Colt, access to a gun and ammunition "after receiving sufficient warning that Colt Gray would harm and endanger the bodily safety of another."
