Melatonin, a natural hormone, is often labeled a heart-healthy sleep aid. However, an extensive new study suggests that regular users face a higher risk of heart failure, hospitalization, and even death over time.

Adults with chronic insomnia who used melatonin for a year or longer faced a 90 percent higher risk of developing heart failure within five years compared with nonusers.

The preliminary analysis, presented on Nov. 3 at the American Heart Association's Scientific Sessions 2025, tracked more than 130,000 adults diagnosed with insomnia. Among those who took melatonin for more than a year, 4.6 percent developed heart failure, compared with 2.7 percent of nonusers.

The Belarus parliament has passed a bill to criminalize the promotion of gender ideology, pedophilia, homosexuality, and deliberate childlessness, mirroring the laws of its neighboring ally, Russia.

The upper house gave the legislation the seal of approval on April 2, following its passage last month by the lower house, with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko expected to sign it into law.

The bill makes the "propaganda of homosexual relations, gender charge, refusal to have children, and pedophilia" punishable by fines and community labor.

Oracle employees have been laid off as part of a "broader organizational change," with data revealing that the company has looked to hire thousands of foreign workers.

The software company, headquartered in Austin, Texas, is going through a huge transition as it prepares to back its infrastructural push toward artificial intelligence — reportedly at the cost of thousands of jobs.

Oracle cut thousands of jobs this week, a number that has not been narrowed since CNBC confirmed with insiders on Tuesday. The company may have already been looking ahead, however, as U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services data shows that Oracle has already filed thousands of petitions for H-1B visas in the past two years.

According to immigration services, the H-1B program allows employers to "temporarily employ foreign workers" for specialized skills. The federal data hub shows that Oracle America Inc. filed for 2,690 visas for fiscal year 2025, which covers Oct. 1, 2024 to Sep. 30, 2025.
