Quote from: formosan on May 12, 2026, 11:49:10 AMMy brother called me and told me he fell and suffered a dislocated shoulder.....has anyone here ever had that or know of someone who did?

Can it be repaired without surgery?

How long is the recovery?

My son in law is an ER doc and deals with them frequently along with other joint dislocations including jaw dislocations. He typically gives a sedative and pops them back into place. Recovery is probably age related as the soreness takes some time to go away. If there is any soft tissue tearing, that can be another problem but as long as nothing is torn or broken, no problemo!

Quote from: Thiel on May 12, 2026, 01:26:26 PMAs the United States navigates a fragile ceasefire in its conflict with Iran, the price of oil has remained volatile and high. Brent crude, the international benchmark, was trading at $104.21 per barrel at market close on Monday, nearly 57% higher than its pre-conflict price. Inflation has risen as a result and is in a territory it hasn't been since 2023, according to an analysis by NBC News.

On Tuesday morning, the Bureau of Labor Statistics released its monthly Consumer Price Index update for April. It reported that inflation in April was 3.8%.

This is not good for the GOP going into the midterms.

Trump needs to rip the bandaid off and fuck em up some more, NOW!

A North Carolina gay couple was arrested after police got a tip about possible child sex abuse material possession, according to the Harnett County Sheriff's Office.

Investigators said numerous tips from the Internet Crimes Against Children database in March led them to believe the two men were in possession of child sexual abuse material.

Police performed a search warrant at the Linda Baucom Lane home of the couple identified as 39-year-old Joshua Lee Gilliam and 39-year-old Ronald Wayne Lynch Jr. and seized numerous digital devices.

Both Gilliam and Lynch were charged with first-degree sexual exploitation of a minor based on what was found on those devices.

Lynch faces an additional charge of second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor, while Gilliam faces additional charges of first-degree statutory sexual offense and indecent liberties with a minor.

The arrest warrants indicate there are at least two victims from September.

The couple first appeared at the Harnett County District Court on Thursday. Gilliam was given no bond, while Lynch was given a $360,000 secured bond.

Online sleuths immediately found social media accounts that appeared to belong to Gilliam. An Instagram profile said the gay couple had custody of five children, all young boys, although a report from the North Carolina Beat said they have four sons together.

It is not known whether their boys are also victims.

One post on the account from March 7, 2021, reads, "Anyone wanna trade pictures with us message us."

Thousands of bottles of a prescription-only pain reliever and fever medication were recalled nationwide due to chemical contamination, according to a Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recall notice released last week.

According to the notice, 6,336 bottles of prescription naproxen oral solution in 125 milligram per 5 milliliters in 16-ounce bottles are under recall. The medication under recall has a lot number of 23F02 and an expiration date of May 2026, and another has a lot number of 25A37 and an expiration date of January 2028.

The reason for the recall was due to what it said was the "presence of lead and lithium above specification."

Global living standards based on the amount of work required to buy a Big Mac.

Time Pricing Big Macs Around the World
Even if a Big Mac is more expensive in money, it can be less expensive in time.

McDonald's operates in over 100 countries worldwide. Since 1986, The Economist magazine has published the Big Mac Index, built on the theory of purchasing power parity (PPP)—the idea that exchange rates should equalize the price of an identical basket of goods across countries. The following shows the dollar price of a Big Mac in each country, sorted by price:

But we can go one step further.

Instead of comparing currencies, we can compare time.

We start with the nominal price of a Big Mac in each country, converted to U.S. dollars, and then compare it to average hourly earnings. Since average hourly earnings data are not available for all countries, GDP per capita divided by annual hours worked serves as a reasonable proxy for relative wages between countries.

This transforms the question from "What does it cost?" to "How long do you have to work to get it?" A Big Mac can be more expensive in money but less expensive in time, depending on where you live.

A Big Mac in Taiwan costs only $2.38, compared to $7.99 in Switzerland, but after adjusting for hourly earnings, the time prices are very similar. In Pakistan, a Big Mac costs $3.77, but hourly earnings are $0.86, putting the time price at 4.4 hours. In Denmark, the price is $5.49, but hourly earnings are $57.60, so the time price is under six minutes. For the time it takes a worker in Pakistan to earn enough to buy one Big Mac, workers in Denmark can buy more than 46.

The Big Mac doesn't just measure currencies; it measures the spread of knowledge.

What looks like inequality in dollars is often a difference in productivity, learning, and institutional capacity. The real divide is not between rich countries and poor countries—it is between places where knowledge compounds and places where it is constrained.

When a sandwich falls from four hours of work to four minutes, something profound has happened—not to the burger, but to the growth and sharing of knowledge.

The story of abundance is not written in dollars. It is written in time.

I wonder how the UAE leaving OPEC will affect oil prices and inflation?
