Anti-EU Parties Win Big In European Elections

Stealing votes from both traditional left and right established parties. Europeans are realizing something needs changing.

QuoteThe UK Independence Party (UKIP) won Sunday's British elections for that country's seats in the European Parliament.

UKIP beat the traditional parties – Labour and the Conservatives – as well as the smaller Liberal Democrats.

UKIP's victory is even more emphatic given their central promise: to withdraw from most of the one-world-government aspects of the European Union. It's amazing that an anti-EU party won the most seats in the EU elections. They've stormed the castle.

It wasn't just Britain. In France, Marine Le Pen's National Front did the same thing – nearly doubling the vote count of the current socialist government led by Francois Hollande.

It was repeated across Europe -- anti-EU parties often came out on top.

Like the United Nations, the EU is beloved by the mainstream media. Because it is inherently left-wing, and bureaucratic, and centralizes power far away from the people over whom it rules.

It appeals to everyone with a grand scheme that would enrich bureaucrats and tax collectors but suffers from the trifling problem that mere citizens don't like it. That is why the Kyoto Protocol was a creation of the UN; that is why most of the punitive regulations and court rulings in Europe come not from individual nation-states, but from the large, unaccountable EU colossus.

That lack of accountability and democracy is grating. But equally motivating the anti-EU vote is local opposition to the EU's de facto abolition of borders. That has let millions of migrants move from the poorer parts of the EU to the richer ones – to France and UK in particular. Poor, low-skill Eastern Europeans, driving down wages in the UK, but driving up housing prices.

And of course, a related fear that is whispered about by real people, but shut out of most of the media: fear of mass Islamic immigration that contains large elements refusing to accept western, liberal values on everything from integration to the treatment of women. That immigration also contains smaller elements that are willing to use violence to undermine those western values.

That's why voters tuned out the charges of racism that were the knee-jerk reaction to UKIP and other Euroskeptics. It's not racist to want Britain to be British, not Bulgarian. It's not racist to want France to be France, and not Morocco.

Calling anti-EU parties racist didn't work. And calling them "fringe" doesn't even make sense, when they have twice the popular support of parties that are in government.

UKIP or the National Front might not win general elections in their respective countries. But last week UKIP won a staggering 161 local town hall seats, twice what pundits had expected, stealing equally from the left and the right. Something new is happening.

But not just in some of the world's oldest democracies. The world's largest democracy, India, had its election two weeks ago, too. And an upstart, conservative party had a stunning breakthrough there.

The BJP party, led by Narendra Modi, won the first outright majority in India's Parliament in 30 years. Conservative-leaning Modi crushed his country's version of Justin Trudeau – the spoiled rich kid, Rahul Gandhi, running on his family's name and fortune. Gandhi cut his party's vote almost in half.

This is a trend, it's the pendulum swinging back. It's the world waking up from the dreamy unreality of Obamaism, where mushy liberal speeches are enough to restart the world's economy and bring peace. It's a rejection of Obamaism, and a return to common sense, national conservatism. You could say, it's a bit of Stephen Harperism.

Ugh. You're not seriously supporting these anti-immigrant neo-Nazis? How can an immigrant be anti-immigrant?

QuoteThough no stranger to controversy or diatribe, the European Parliament is set to usher in its first fully-fledged neo-Nazis members, from Germany and Greece.

With around 300,000 votes at the European elections the neo-Nazi National Democratic Party of Germany (NPD) was expected to claim one of the country's 96 seats in the new Parliament, in a historical ground-breaker.

It describes itself as "national socialist," just like Germany's Nazis in the 1930s, and is openly xenophobic and anti-Semitic so a group of German regional governments have tried to have it banned for propagating racism.

Meanwhile, with almost all ballots counted in Greece, the neo-Nazi "Golden Dawn" party is claiming over nine percent of the vote, which would net it three seats in the 751-member Parliament.

Golden Dawn was founded in the 1980s by Nikos Michaloliakos, an open admirer of Adolf Hitler. In 2012, Michaloliakos publicly denied the responsibility of Nazis in the mass-murder of six million Jews.

The leader of Germany's Jewish community denounced the gains made by far-right parties and urged democratic forces to block their path and defend European values.

Dieter Graumann, the president of the Central Council of Jews in Germany pointed to France, Hungary and Greece, saying in a statement: "Right-wing MPs are now coming into the European Parliament from all over Europe in order to implement their anti-European and extremist course."

He also said that the "specter of anti-Semitism" had become a "brutal reality" after a gunman shot dead four people at the Jewish Museum in Brussels Saturday.

German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier said he was deeply shocked over the attack.

"It goes without saying that in every regard and from every conceivable perspective, it's completely unacceptable what happened there," Steinmeier's spokesman told reporters Monday.

Graumann described as "intolerable" the winning of one seat in the parliament by the extremist anti-immigrant NDP of Germany.

Racism and anti-Semitism must have no place in Europe, Graumann warned.

I can't believe how many Europeans want fascism after what happened the last time.

People are stupid. People forget; especially now that the generations who remember or lived thru Europe's darker fascist days are fading away.

As for most of those succeeding in the election, it's really very simple ... apparently too simple for PC robots.  The stupid EU elite did their PC thingy and flooded the EU with immigrants over decades  .... many of whom have not worked out well ... like for example a supremacist ideology would work out well, :sigh: .... :triple sigh: ... :quadruple sigh:

Most all of those elected are good people protecting themselves from fucked up leadership (over decades of damage)

So, many don't like today's situation for damned valid  reasons (the EU being fucked now for example)  ... and are changing things using the ballot. They elected MANY who are smart enough to see how mass immigration and STUPID immigration has fucked the EU

The overall is that simple. There is no more to it than that.

If  PC to the core  robots wish to attempt to distort the REAL and overall picture of what happened by attempting to  make it all about  "exception", well ... that's their  style ... their usual tactic, eh?

cc, you're an immigrant. Either way, you couldn't possibly believe that electing neo-Nazis is any solution. Other than final, of course.

I can't understand why an immigrant would be anti-immigrant. I guess it's easy for you now that you're here in my country.

QuoteGreece's Golden Dawn party describes Hitler as 'great personality'

Cementing its credentials as an unapologetic neo-Nazi force, Greece's increasingly combative Golden Dawn party has hailed Hitler as a "great personality" and denounced homosexuality as a "sickness".

When asked about Hitler, Panagiotaros, who is widely seen as the organisation's chief overseas strategist, described him as a "great personality, like Stalin".

Members of Greece's gay community and dark-skinned immigrants have been singled out for attack by Golden Dawn hit squads. The paramilitary units roamed the streets with seeming impunity until a government crackdown against the group spurred by the murder last September of the Greek musician and anti-fascist activist Pavlos Fyssas.

If you look them up you will see that they're all far-right, nationalist socialist and anti-immigrant. Just like the Nazis.

Exactly. When leadership has fucked the EU counties up for decades , expect "serious" dissent.

Fortunately, most all of those elected are good people protecting themselves and others from fucked up leadership (over decades of damage)

If they and those who created the problems can't fix it, expect more & more serious dissent until the problem is repaired.

Fix the problems and there is no problem. Continue to pretend the problems don't exist at their peril

Le Pen handily topped the polls in France - Does he have the slightest clue as to "WHY"?

They're using it as an excuse to further their fascist agenda. Just like the Nazis did.

Phase 1 would be to get out of the EU and cease all immigration.

Phase 2 would be "purification".

this is what happens when the progressive left institutes policies that are diametrically opposed to what the majority of the population desire.....they put up with it for a while but eventually grow weary of the bullshit and get interested enough to rebel...the same will happen here...unfortunately it will require force to undo all the damage brought about by decades of radical left wing ideologies and policies.....we are doomed if these groups do not succeed in rolling back the socialist hordes.....IMHO only military force will be able to reverse the damage in time.....going the ballot box route over the next 40 years will be too late.

Good point. The odds of fixing the "progressive?" damage as vs. serious trouble are not good.

Only thing certain now is that they will be gone in not all that long a time and everything will be reversed

I smile every time I hear them call themselves "progressive" when everywhere they get power they immediately prove themselves to be "regressives"

They have killed Europe and are currently doing the same south of the border
