 Oh man YES.

Right now i have the bird in a large dog crate. The cats will go chattering at it while its in the crate lol.

When i let the pigeon out, ill put the cats in the office.

If we keep the pigeon, we will be getting a larger bird cage. Im gonna be converting the back porch room....its like a sun room, into a lounge for the animals.

My Cat Poppy would find a way to get it.  She's a bird murderer when it's warm out.

Quote from: Dove on December 02, 2025, 04:09:14 PMPigeons got a real shit deal from humans, sadly.

They are actually very sweet, intelligent and clean birds.

I also kept it quarantined for the first 8 days it spent here just to make sure it wasnt carrying any respiratory illnesses  or anything it could pass.

Eunice is very healthy.  Im decently experienced taking care of wild life.  Ive been dragging hurt animals home since childhood. I cant help it. :/

When i was 9 i found a baby robin. It had pin feathers and its eyes were open but it was out of the nest and i watched for nearly two days for the mom. She never came back. So i snuck the baby into my room, made a nest in my drawer, and raised it on mashed up worms and ....green jello water.

My grandma found it on accident after 3 or so weeks. I raised it for about 4ish months before releasing it and it didnt want to leave so we took it to a woman who rehabbed wild life.

After that it was a random turtle with a cracked shell.  Then another bird with a large wound on the wing.  A few garter snakes. The list goes on. I even had a baby mole at one point. Ive been bit by everything.

Eventually i ended up in a trailor in the boonies with 32 cats and a rabbit lol.

Right now im very close to getting my man to buy a small flock of chickens as i promised i would name them after the famous Tudors. He digs that idea lol.
Clean are they? There are towns that have fake owls in their downtown areas to scare the little poop factories away.

Shouldnt let that kittie outside, Reg!

You know what else ive seen in my relationship with outside animals? Ive seen pet cats hit by cars (intentionally even), shot with darts and BBs, and poisoned with shit like anti freeze.

And this is often how it happens. Lets say one of your neighbors has a garden and likes to attrack birds to watch....and your kitty is a bird killer and has killed several birds and your cat has now become the bane of someones existence. Or it just pees in their garden and kills all their plants. Or its damaging any part of their house (going after mice that are under the house)

Cats are a highly destructive, invasive species and people who hate them...really hate them.  If your cat makes a human ememy out there just by being a cat....thats not gonna be good for the cat. They have no idea they are pissing someone off. They are just being cats. That human very well may do something.  Ive talked to people like this....their points are valid, but the hatred they develop for an animal just doing its thing is unhinged.  They have NO problem severely injuring or killing that cat. They view the cat like its some fuzzy boogie man who is destroying their life. Im not being dramatic at all. On reddit these people have a whole subreddit about how much they hate cats and they even hate people who love and have cats. They are not okay mentally.

If mine got out there? Theyd be killing birds like crazy. They sit in the window and just quiver with excitement. I never feel bad for mice that come in here. They are asking for what they get.

You should put one of those break away collars on your cat and put a camera on it. There is a guy who does this with his cat and he has a whole youtube channel of it. His cat is always fighting all the other cats. Its a whole drama.

Also keep in mind that loose dogs, coyotes and fox will kill cats. As well racoons. I dont know what kind of wild life you have around but a coyote has no mercy.

Well individual pigeons are pretty clean. Pigeons will gather in very large flocks and yeah a flock of anything is gonna be filthy.

Especially a flock of humans. Ill never forget how New Orleans looked after Mardi Gras. The whole French Quater was trashed.

You can see where the leg is healing.
Are you planning on releasing it when it is completely healed?

He had three tumors on his back end that showed up and he was in pain. Trembling. Not sitting. And he stopped jumping up on the bed with us. He also stopped eating and dropped 6 pounds. I was feeding him from my hand....it was the ONLY way he would eat his dog food. Chicken and rice was no problem. But he would only eat his kibble from my HAND.  Which was absolutely disgusting.....their saliva becomes like some thick foamy slime when they eat so....i cried while doing it but i did it lol.

He is 8 years old so we made a vet app right away and they just looked at it and scheduled surgery.

Two of the lumps were cancerous. They said this is common and we are just watching now and if any come back....we bring him to the vet.

He is doing much better now. Jumping up on the bed again and no more trembling.

We are pretty uneasy about it being cancer growths and doing nothing but "watching" but the vet is confident. Hopefully we have no more problems going forward.

Yes as long as the bird starts to grip with its feet again, the plan is to release it BUT we are prepared to keep it.

Its an invasive species in our city so....i dont know.

I dont know what im gonna do yet. Either way, Eunice is here for the winter months.

If we keep this bird, i want to provide it with a proper aviary and maybe another pigeon (which we would get from a breeder).

I think its a young adult. Maybe 1...2 years old so domesticating it wont be difficult.  I dont believe in trimming flight feathers. I want it able to fly around.

I suppose it was only a matter of time before i started keeping pigeons and doves so i may as well embrace it lol.

My Squish. Shes absolutely in love with the pigeon.  I make her wear an old t shirt to cuddle the bird in case it takes a big bird shit on her.

And she is VERY into helping animals and she can help with anything. My daughters take after me a lot with this.

One of my favorite recent photos ♡♡♡

The love affair between Squish and this feral pigeon is why Eunice may become a permanent resident. Because the affection is very mutual. This bird will just step right into her hands and rides on her back all day.

Shes always been very kind and gentle and empathetic with animals.  But she has some sort of deep connection with this one.

One of my 20 year old daughters gerbils. She has two.

I honestly forget we even have these here. She has them in her bedroom.  They live in tunnels they made in all this bedding.

 They bite HARD lol.

Kitties are not allowed in her room because they raise hell in there trying to get at these guys. They dont understand why they cant have them....since they kill the mice that come in the basement.  They get on top of this tank and look at us like "are you guys fucking stupid? They are right down there! Open this thing immediately!"
