Herman

Quote from: J E B Stuart on May 28, 2025, 03:23:20 PMSad news, Cochise. I've been listening to him since The McCoys released "Hang On Sloopy".  This was a big hit for Rick in 1973 when he went solo:

Amen.
That was the song he was most famous for.

Bad Company needs no introduction. This song was not one of their biggest on the charts.  Not even close. It is, however, one of my favorites. This is from BC's fourth album Desolation Boulevard:

Amen.
Deo vindice

When you talk about The Steve Miller Band you're essentially talking about Steve Miller.  Formed in 1966, TSMB became a hit machine in the 70s. This unforgettable gem went all the way to #1 in the USA as well as several other countries in 1973:

Amen.
Deo vindice

You have heard of one hit wonders. He had an album version of that. Even his fans might not be familiar with his songs that were not on Fly Like an Eagle.

I like the Steve Miller Band. They played old Herman's kind of music.

I can agree with you to this extent - none of SMB's songs after Fly Like an Eagle appear on any of my playlists. That said, Book of Dreams from 1977 yielded three big hits: Jet Airliner; Jungle Love and Swingtown. Also, Abracadabra from a few years later was pretty damn big.

All things considered, I do think Fly Like An Eagle was his best album and that's saying a lot. He's put out beaucoup music over the years.

Amen.

Formed 1970 in Doraville, Georgia, The Atlanta Rhythm Section is still in business. Their most successful years were in the 70s. This song came out in 1978 and is one of my favorites:

Amen.

I stand corrected. I thought Jet Airliner was on Fly Like an Eagle.

That is my second favourite tune by Steve Miller after Jet Airliner.

Glam rock band Mott The Hoople was formed in 1969 in Herefordshire, England. By 1972, they were on the verge of breaking up, but David Bowie persuaded them to record this song. You can say the rest is history as this number kicked off the success that had eluded them thus far:

Amen.

I've heard the name of the band, but I didn't know any of their songs.
