We've been twice this year so I am kind of Vegas's out but my wife wants to go again and The Palms just sent us a comp for two free nights in November (weekday only).  I may have to dust off my Hopper app and see if I can't find some cheap flights.

For those of you who don't know The Palms (now owned by the San Manual Indians) is an off strip casino resort but it is pretty close to the Vegas strip (maybe 10 minutes away).  It is close to Chinatown which is where you find the best Asian food in Vegas along with the most affordable buffets which still offers all you can eat lobster and crab.  The casinos next to The Palms are the RIO (a dump filled with hookers looking for johns) and The Gold Coast (a locals casino with low table limits, cheap drinks, and decent food specials).  Speaking of food The A.Y.C.E. Buffet at The Palms is legitimately a top 3 buffet in Vegas and the injuns are very generous with giving away free buffets to player's club members.

Next, The Palms has the largest standard room sizes of any hotel in Vegas.  Even the standard room has a full kitchen with stove, microwave, full-sized fridge, a large counter bar with bar stools, two large flat screens, a balcony, and a giant bathroom with both a walk in shower as well as a 2 person Jacuzzi tub.

A good video showing the rooms.

A look at the other food and drink options at The Palms resort.

The Chinese restaurant actually looks pretty good and is known for it dim sum.  It even has a Michelin star.

The steak house is their top restaurant offering but it doesn't seem to be a stand out

For the next month, its best to stay away from New York New York up to The Fashion Show Mall. All the construction they have going on for the Grand Prix has everything fucked up. I suspect it will take them until the end of the year to get it all torn down again.

On the interstate, traffic at the Tropicana exit is fuk'd because of on ramp construction so getting to the In N Out Burger on the corner of Dean Martin and Tropicana can be a challenge but still worth it IMO because that one has the best burgers. The 15 slows down to a dead crawl frequently and posted speed limits are 35MPH in the area where Caesars is.

If I had to suggest an on strip hotel to stay at, the MGM, Luxor, Mandalay Bay, Hooters, would be easy to get in and out of. On the other end, anything North of TI and Encore is easy access. We stayed at Bellagio a few weeks back which is in the middle of the mess but I know the streets pretty well and didnt have much trouble navigating. The limo driver that took my parents to and from McCarran Airport told them its the worst traffic he's ever seen in Vegas.

The view on the strip is ruined until the Vegas Grand Prix is over.
