I have at least 3 of those coins in near mint condition.  I would have to dig out the rest of my collection to see how many more I have.

Shit, if I put my collection on the market, I think it might negatively impact the market pricing.

I actually have a number of Gretzky RC's kicking around.  One is PSA 8.  I have a number of PSA 7's.

Quote from: JOE on October 31, 2023, 03:34:47 PMIn ten years, the coin will probably be worth more than either of Prowler's overpriced heaps of junk. while his are deprciating assets mine is an appreciating one.

I bought my sports cars as fun forms of transportation, Joe.  They are not intended to be money making purchases.

It would be a really sad existence to only spend money on things that are intended to be investments.  I would shoot myself in the face if I could not spend money to acquire things that will bring me excitement and enjoyment.

Quote from: JOE on October 31, 2023, 03:34:47 PMI suppose it's like comparing a camaro with 1957 Corvette, also made in limited quantities. Which one would you choose as a car collector? I'd take the Corvette myself.

That is the beauty of being able to choose for yourself.

Personally, I love my 2023 Corvette.

Hope it doesn't offend you, but I think the camaro is an ugly car, Prowler. And I hear the visibility is poor making safety a concern.

And I've noticed this has been commented upon a lot on the Web and YouTube.

or

QuoteIt's hideous, and most people I've seen who drive them act like they're driving a fucking McLaren. Get over yourself. No one is impressed by your car.

If I paid that much for a car, it should at least be beautiful - like a work of art. But instead the camaro is $100,000+ of sheer ugliness.

shows ya money caint buy you taste.

Ugly dog, ugly car.

Oh well.

Read it and weep, Joe.

Hahaha!!!!

So what?

You spent your money on a depreciating asset.

Some cars like this one actually increase in value:

A car like the above can actually make the owner money.
ie - photoshoots. Movies. But you wouldn't know that since you live in the middle of nowhere where nothing goes on.

Personally, I wouldn't waste my money on a depreciating asset.

PLUS...there are always better cars coming out all the time which will supersede it. Cars with few redeeming qualities like yours have little value once they become obsolete. Just like yesterday's computer that ends up in the bargain bin.

Money is a tool to buy things that can bring pleasure.

It is amazing that you are so obsessed with money, and you are poor.

You are truly pathetic, Senile Joe.

Quote from: Adolf Oliver Bush on October 31, 2023, 03:16:47 AMI only ever had two coins I considered collectible. The first (a 1966 minted Australian round 50 cent piece which was withdrawn the following year because it cost more in silver to mint than the 50 cents it represented) I was given as a membership token to a small community of pot smokers back in my early twenties. The second was a commemorative 2020 American Samoa quarter (the wildlife park one with the bats on it) which I had set in a keyfob. I call it my coronacoin.

I could give a fuck what they were worth on the open market, the only value I place in them is what they represent to me. I'm certainly not looking to expand my "collection" anytime soon either and Joe's insistence in populating this forum with thread after thread of "oooh, shiny" denotes a level of obsession I suspect can only be achieved by wearing the kind of jockettes that strangle one's brain.

Actually, you make some good points, Ollie.

I might unload this collection one day.

It's starting to become to large and unwieldy.

At some point, it might be wise to downsize and sell at least most of the collection.

I see whatcha mean about favorite coins - whatever actual value they may be.

I have 2 which aren't really that valuable other than the gold (too common), but they look so good that's the reason I might hang onta them an git rid of the pricier items.

I know Americans really like this one:

And they buy a lot of them.

This one is also quite popular but I think it's more scarce and harder ta find:

The other is the Kennedy Gold plated 1/2 Dollar. Not terribly valuable, but it looks good too.

I gotta growing vintage American comic book & magazine collection too. That might also be on the auction block one day too.

These things are nice to own for a limited period of time, but I'm starting to think that they need an exit strategy. In other words, don't hold 'em, jes fold em, sell 'em & get out.

Actually Herm as a Chauffeur I drove the very wealthy in much more expensive cars than the Prowler's hunk of junk. Other than the odd comfortable ride or sexy woman in the 'em, I don't really like cars that much. Having to worry about taking care of and guarding an expensive car feels like an anvil around one's neck. It's just a big paperweight I couldn't wait to get rid of at the end of the night when the shift was over.

My dream car is something very low cost, low maintenance, low gas/fuel/electricity whatever. The less you spend on those things the better.  I don't drive to run people off the road. That's how drivers often kill or get killed on the road in my city.

Aggressive drivers are very dangerous imho & should be charged to the full extent of the law.

Frood

Joe should stick to keeping his internals fully lubed so T and aggressively drive and service him.

Actually Joe, I have always found the idea of buying a small car like a Chevy Spark to be an attractive option for getting around town.

My obstacle has been garage space (I have too many vehicles).

What is stopping you?

Quote from: TheProwler on November 01, 2023, 12:46:16 PMActually Joe, I have always found the idea of buying a small car like a Chevy Spark to be an attractive option for getting around town.

Well Prowler, for one, I'm thinking of getting back inta skiing again. However...the road up to Whistler and other mountains requires a stronger, toughter, hardier vehicle. Someone told me that they went out in the country recently with a relatively new small FIAT and it broke down. maybe a lot of city cars just don't have the horsepower to drive in the country.

It's expensive to ski y'know. But a person also needs a better car as well. and unlike a Spark or similarly small car that's pricey. It's not just the ski equipment, it's the transportation to get up there. So, if I bought a small car, I might have to buy another car eventually. Just weighing my options at the moment. No point in having to spend 2 times down the road instead of just once doing it right the first time.
