Their interview videos before they got accepted for the show weren't deliberated on by show staff for survival skills but instead psychological traits and the drama llama quotient.

"Hi, I'm a 38 year old survivalist instructor and stay at home mother of 6 kids, and look! I make teh firez in mah backyardz! Here is me fishingz!"

Nobody that could easily win ever gets accepted to compete on these shows.
