JOE

A Samsung S9

Wasn't bad.

The guy threw in a wireless charge stand for $20.

Gotta Koodoo (Telus) plan for $34 ($25 US) per month and 50 GB of data.

I just want it as a 2nd phone.

I don't believe in spending too much on phones.
The less the better.

So I try not to get carried away and spend as little as possible on 'em.

Guy said it's a good for a secondhand phone.
Anyone else know if it is or not?

Contradiction spotted.

Anyone looking to spend as little as possible does not get a 2nd phone.

Well Prowler, I coulda gotten the same plan from Rogers.

But I don't trust them, cuz they had a major network meltdown a couple of years ago.

so I chose Telus as a second option.

I gotta Rogers line for the other phone.

But I don't wanna be stranded like I was once with havin' only Rogers as a provider. From what I understand this has happened to Rogers at least 2 times. They're simply not reliable.

Even a cheap no frills provider like Koodoo is actually better than an expensive Rogers plan because at least there's no excessive down time.

Why don't you just let Thiel get you a new phone?  He'll probably give you a nice stongbox to keep your coins and sports cards in too ... and some red leather assless chaps to wear around the house when you're doing housework.

I prefer ta make my own money, Reggie.

Heck I'm also on my way to completing My Playboy Magazine collection for their first 20 years, eh?

Actually, completing that set is a lot easier than collecting a run of rare comic books or coins, eh? Hockey cards too.

And cheaper too. I'm surprised that Playboy #1 can still be had for as little as $2,000 US in low grade, which isn't bad considering that Superman #1 sells for $1 million dollars.

So, while I can't afford Superman or the original Roger Hornsby baseball card, I managed ta snag Penthouse #1 US edition for $60 some time ago. Porn is cheaper 'n the regular stuff. Maybe the married guys like you caint keep it around the house cuz they're marriage wreckers eh?

I'm workin' on getting ZAP Comix #1 by Robert Crumb, eh?
However, the price is still a bit too high. Hopefully an economic slowdown/recession might knock the collectibles market prices down a bit.

I got a bunch of Furry Freak Brothers comics in a box somewhere.  Maybe I shoud sell them on eBay to collectors like you?

Just be careful with them Playboys, Joe.  You won't be able to sell them for much if the pages are stuck together.

I managed ta get the first printing of Freak Brothers #1.

Looking for 1st print #2. that goes for about $100 these days.

But other than Freak Brothers, Robert Crumb or Larry Welz, I do't wanna collect too much of that genre - underground comix. There aren't too many of those books which are that memorable, of high quality or are that collectible. And if something aint collectible, in the long run it aint saleable as well.

Plus I notice DC comics don't sell or command the high prices that the Old Marvel comic books do. Marvel rules the roost in that regard.

Well Bigly, I got this thing about tryin' ta collect the set of something. And once I git goin' I try ta complete it. Like comic books. Or Gold Sovereigns.

Conan #1-24. Tales to Astonish #27-69. Strange Tales #101-134.

I think the first 20 years of Playboy Mags is within reach too, eh?

Still affordable. Same with vintage hockey cards.
I don' touch American baseball cards tho.
That's a rich man's game. That probably went outta the park even before I was born. When a single baseball card sells for $1 Million+ why bother? Actually some of those baseball cards alone cost more than 3 or 4 years of the best vintage hockey card SETS which are still within reach of most collectors.

Funny thing, I buy these things then I barely look at 'em.

Maybe when I retire, I'll have more time ta read 'em.

But more likely is I'll sell them off if they appreciate in value.

Collecting is generally very expensive.

It's actually very expensive to try to hang on to everything a collector buys. Eventually, they have ta unload them cuz they become too unwieldy and take up too much space.

As a rule, a collector caint hold on to everything forever.
Or afford to. They should downsize at some point.

I'll likely pare down my collection within 10 years, make it smaller and more manageble.

Well I'm mostly invested in GICs/MoneyMarket & Gold, Pwowlah.
Maybe 5% or less of my assets in collectibles? Maybe I've spent2 2 or 3%?

It's true that paper collectibles could take a hit, fer sure. That's why I don't buy too many of 'em and I generally try to buy 1/2 price or less at auctions, eh? So if I git stuck with 'em at least I'll enjoy 'em.

I took yer advice and opened up a trading account Pwowlah. However...I'm not sure about the stock market these days. So maybe I'll just keep it in cash fer now. If we don't see a major correction/crash in 2024, I'd reckon it's sometimes after the US elections. Maybe 2025 or '26.

I think they're jes holdin the dam back 'til it bursts eh.
