Quote from: TheProwler on February 01, 2024, 10:52:44 PMMy house is worth about $1.2 million in the current market.

That would get me a nice house in New Brunswick and a nice house in Florida and I would still have a few hundred thousand left over.

It is something that we have been considering, but we really have so many close ties to where we live that we have decided to stay here.

With friends, family, baseball, hockey, the Humane Society, etc. etc. we would be giving up too much if we moved.

I do not care about Vancouver.  I hear you complain about it all the time, Senile Joe.  You miserable loser!!!

Hahahahaha!!!!!
He has snagged himself a well to do fruit sugar daddy though.

Yes. That would get you half a driveway on prime real estate in Vancouver.

West Van. Point Grey.

Or part of a triplex whichever you prefer.

You couldn't even get a laneaway house anywhere in Vancouver for that price, Prowler.

Not that Vancouver is shit hot. California and it looks like Florida with its ever increasing insurance rates out of your reach too.

That is why so many people in Vancouver do not own their house and carry a mortgage, you ridiculous buffoon!!!

And, Senile Joe, learn to read you stupid twit!!!!

Quote from: Lokmar on February 01, 2024, 06:58:32 PMIt depends on how bad you think things will get. If you think it will be a repeat of 2008, sure. If you think it will be a repeat of 1933, silver is best and for US Citizens, FOREIGN bullion if you want to add gold. It needs to be untraceable.

Actually Lokmeer I think commodities will be the place to invest over the next decade.

One big reason is there's not enough of them to meet world demand. And that includes silver I should think since it is also an industrial metal not just for coins and jewelry. Copper seems good too. Lithium as well. Also the supply of platinum is uncertain and a large number of these elements reside in nations where the political situation is uncertain or else they have somewhat frosty relations with the US.

And it isn't just the political relations between China and the US that are on edge. It's their fight or competition for the remaining supply of the most coveted natural resources.

A battleground for these resources is places like South America which is rich in lithium and copper. China really wants to make inroads there and take over to feed their industrial machine.

I already have some silver bullion Lokmeer. 25 ounces of it & another 40-50 of collector silver which I bought way back when. I might get another 75 of bullion & 50 of collector type.

Cap it at 100 oz. Of bullion

I generally don't buy too much silver because it is much more volatile than gold and doesn't retain its value as well  silver can really plummet in price.

So no 500 oz/piece 'Monster packs' of silver eagles for me like I often see advertised in your country. I never see anything like that advertised in Canada. Tho popular, US coins tend to be an outlier in Canada. More a novelty here.

Actually I'd like to get some of your more oddball items such as 3 cent/5 cent silver. Large copper cents the size of Kennedy half dollars. $2.50, $5,$10, $20 Gold coins. Hawaiin half dollars.  Confederate restrikes. Those are quite interesting because they aren't made anymore and likely never will be ever again.

There was money or tokens for the slaves so they could buy and trade things.

So ya even had segregated currency in America at one time...Lokmeer!

Shame on you but still its interesting

Btw I noticed that slave money commands high prices these days. ;-)

Shit, you could have sold all your silver and bought my 23 year old Chevy, Senile Joe.

Did you max out your RRSPs this year?  Did you deposit the max into your TFSA?

What is your Net Worth, Senile Joe?

After all these decades of worrying about wealth, it does not seem like you have done well for yourself...

YUO fukin retard, I told you, your fuking gold doubloons are gonna get you killed in SHTF! Oh well, I warned you!

And for the record, silver always maintains a direct relationship with gold. Sure, it ebbs and flows, but be patient, it always equalizes.

No thanks Prowler!

A see cars as a depreciating asset & a big money pit/drain.

Even tho I was a ft chauffeur/limo driver once, cars aren't my kinda thang. Actually I don't even like them.

If I was gonna buy a car, it'd be something cheap like a used Pontiac firefly or swift.

Doya know where i kin buy a used car good on gas for $2000 or less Prowler?

That's my idea of a 'dream car' eh. Low maintenance low cost good on gas etc

If you really did blow $100,000 + on a car, that's a lotta dough down the drain imho Prowler.

I think Oerdin echoed that sentiment as well.

However, I admit I've blown my share recently on stupid things.

ie - I recently paid $7200 US + taxes shipping on a collector comic book.
Journey into Mystery #83 - the first appearance of Thor (1962).

initially I thought "I made a mistake like omigod, what have I bought?! What a stupid thing I've done." However, incredulously, the auction house I bought it from asked me if I wanted to sell it back to 'em. Turns out, it actually retails for $9,000-10,000 on eBay.  eg - this guy wants over $10,000 US or $14,000 Canadian for it and it has 114 people watching/wanting it.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/394109925204?hash=item5bc2c83754:g:ScYAAOSwMCBioO8U&amdata=enc%3AAQAIAAAA8Ng%2FxsuDw4fN3Icho3gURKxIJ8VwY%2FD7AuVVTDd2ODYUR2Z0l163lJ7lhmUUPrZ4%2F5FXAPlddD%2BgO%2BputraOKGf%2F6qVh9%2BgXO%2BZS44MTSP%2FZa8ZncMrW70kmlysmzp2fdIVQl9XfskBtegVKsvHY8ebs%2B0sJT0v7NaTleJHHRq%2BpzbZx34XqftTzglL%2FYgvol71oXMgGB53%2BCsyA20d4I%2FHl8cyFyxf2NRnF7mrCJYVlTMdcR9ZSA%2F2CngEUr1dFk%2BI7MMK3lob%2FOWna1HRSvLIy4CBi5rhx%2F2EyLdOmNWom84O1%2FcuQsCQ8FM%2BLBiNeAw%3D%3D%7Ctkp%3ABk9SR-b7nqKuYw

Apparently, the Thor franchise is still goin' strong and Marvel is set to release its 5th movie of the Mighty Thor.

Still, People will actually pay that much money for an item made on the cheapest newsprint of its time that used to sell for 12 cents at the newstand. Actually I can't believe it. Yet If I'm a sucker than there's even bigger suckers than me who'll pay more.

so, while admittedly I spend money on foolish buys, at least I can find a buyer for 'em.

Not sure if I'm gonna hang onto it. Fo sho it was a foolish buy, but at least I can sell it back for the price or more than I paid for it.

I call that an example of  - "don't buy what ya can't resell."

Or in other words, ifya pay big money for things, make sure ya get big money back.

Cover yer B-hind, eh.
