Ask yourself this: what use do you have for patriotic pride in a populace if you've signed on to the idea of global hegemony and a socialist society? Would it be.... none perhaps?

It doesn't matter what reason they give. Society as you know it is being reengineered and any memorial to the sacrifices made in support of the old ways must be memoryholed in order to utterly defeat and demoralize the People. So sayeth the power behind your "elected leaders".
