Create a huge irreversible bureaucracy, make Canadians poorer as government gouges even more of their hard-earned $$ and hire more expensive unionized snivel serpents to "manage" it all . NO FUCKING THANK YOU!! acc_angry

We'll hold on to our own money thank you very much. We're not interested in passing on more debt to our children and grandchildren while unnecessarily hiring more entitled DB pensioned snivel serpents. We'll make our own choices with our own money.

QuoteCan you run your own life?

We are one year away from the next federal election and that is the basic question being put forward by the parties.

On one side you will have the Conservatives, mostly arguing for greater freedom for you. On the other side the Liberals and the NDP argue that you cannot succeed unless they are able to run large parts of your life for you.

The NDP unveiled their big policy this week -- national daycare.

They call it early learning. I call it early indoctrination. It's an incredibly expensive program that doesn't deliver on its promises.

Studies out of Quebec show that after more than a decade of the government-run system, they are having more problems with childhood obesity.

The national daycare-supporting Toronto Star reported on the study with a headline that read "Children in daycare at risk of being obese, overweight: Study."

"Kids in daycare are 65% more likely to be overweight between the ages of 4 and 10 than kids who stayed at home with a parent between the ages of 1.5 and 4."

But we are told it is best for all kids to be in daycare, the implication being that you can't raise your kids.

The Liberals haven't promised to replicate the NDP plan but they do support government-run daycare over making it easier for families to choose what is best for them.

And why wouldn't they?

Like the NDP, they are progressives and progressives don't believe that you can look after yourself, make your own decisions or run your own life.

It's why the NDP, and possibly the Liberals, also want to double the Canada Pension Plan.

We already have a Canada Pension Plan, Old Age Security, RRSPs and Tax-Free Savings Accounts.

Is it your job to make sure that I retire with enough money to keep myself in the manner in which I have become accustomed?

I'd argue no.

But the progressives argue that Canadians cannot save for themselves so the government must do the saving for them.

What they fail to account for is that taxes are the greatest single drag on income.

The Fraser Institute has been showing for years now that the average Canadian family sees more of their income taken by taxes than by the cost of necessities such as housing, clothing and food.

"In 2013, the study finds that the average Canadian family earned $77,381 and paid $32,369 in total taxes (or 41.8% of income) compared to 36.1% for food, shelter and clothing combined."

And what is the progressive response?

Double payments, which means doubling premiums and will result in the average Canadian losing about $1,200 a year in take-home pay.

On the other side of the equation is the Conservative Party.

After finally balancing the budget, the Conservatives are looking at a budget surplus and finding ways to lower the tax burden on Canadians.

The Conservatives already claim that the average family has saved more than $3,000 per year in federal taxes as the result of the GST cut, income tax cuts and other tax breaks.

On the table for the next election, an across-the-board tax cut, a doubling of the amount you can contribute annually to the Tax-Free Savings Account to $10,000 and income splitting.

What all of these proposals do is say to Canadians keep more of your money. We trust you to run your life. We trust you to look after your kids, we trust you to save for your retirement.

I trust myself to make the best decisions for my life rather than government. Don't you?

If any Canadian believes the BS the No Development Party is trying to sell to voters about this, then I have a huge swath of prime oceanfront property in Regina that I am going to sell and donate the proceeds to the David Suzuki corporation, I mean foundation.
QuoteYet another scheme to get kids out of the home and into the arms of the state as early as possible.

We thought we'd heard the end of national childcare when the Paul Martin government fell.

The latest now comes to us from the NDP. Opposition leader Tom Mulcair says the program would eventually cost $5 billion a year to support one million childcare spaces but only cost families a maximum fee of $15 per day per child. Right now, childcare costs more for most families.

But the math doesn't smell right here. Get the same or more service for less money?

Not only does the private sector tend to be leaner, but we'll bet the farm national childcare will be a unionized environment. There's no way Mulcair's program will actually cost less than private childcare operations.

So while $15 per day is the sticker price, that's likely not all you'll be paying. You'll no doubt have to shell out through increased taxes.

In this plan, Mulcair says he'll negotiate a deal nationwide where the feds cough up 60% of the costs and the provinces pay the rest. Really? Can cash-strapped provinces actually afford this? Of course not. Watch for an increase in user fees and taxes.

Let's also get real about one part of Mulcair's plan: It's going to be phased in over eight years. You know what that means? It means it'll cost way more than they initially said and provide a lot less than promised. It's the public sector way.

Mulcair doesn't shy away from comparing his program to Quebec's $7 per day program. The only problem is that program's finances are shaky. They're thinking of adjusting the fees so people pay according to their incomes.

So if Ottawa mimics Quebec, it could even be a bait-and-switch program. Middle-class families who are happy with their arrangements will move to another provider because it's a lower fee, only to find that fee increase after a few years. Meanwhile their taxes have gone up.

The current child rebate program only pays $100 a month. It's not a lot. But it goes to everyone – regardless of which provider they choose, or if a parent chooses to stay home.

Well, Fraser as well as the MacDonald-Laurier Institute champion the rights of taxpayers by exposing the things government does not want us to know.
