With the primaries over it's not like the democrats can simply declare Joe's not the nominee anymore and he's just the kind of asshole who, even demented as fuck, would rather drag the party down with him than give up his power and privileges. His wife and family won't be much help because they're just as invested in Joe being president as he is.

The democrats may try to pull off some kind of procedural maneuver at the convention but they've been happy to lie about Joe's condition so far and I doubt they'd be squeamish about continuing to do so.

Oh yeah- except they have to do a Zoom meeting vote (well before the convention) in time for Joe to get onto a state ballot... Ohio I believe. Maybe that's where they'll try to do a switch?

I dunno. To me it still seems the most likely scenario is Biden will refuse to step down and the democrats will go back to pretending everything's fine. Until it isn't.

They have enough dirt on Biden that they could kick him out any time they wanted to. They could invest a poofteenth of the effort they have lavished on Trump and have him replaced as nominee tomorrow if they so chose. I suspect the only reason they haven't as yet is because pretty much anything they do in that direction gives the "conspiracy theorists" their "I told you so" moment.

I can only see two paths forward for them; physically removing him in such a manner they can swear up and down is a result of MAGA (ie: assassination) or the outright suspension of the electoral process (ie: the invocation of the War Act). I find it highly doubtful that democrat support is going to remain as its been when the lions share of the media (and this is including their own commentators) are pointing out just how dire his situation is and simply swapping him out for someone with less cognitive kangaroos loose in the top paddock will piss off the lesser lights that yet cling to the lie that he is the west's hope against Orangemanbad.

They wanted a messy primary, but they wanted it for the republicans, not themselves. This shitshow landing in their lap is a crisis they have little options open for dealing with. Hoping it goes away is not, I think, one of those options.
