M.Obama is like Hillary in that a small but vocal slice of the party worships her but the rest are ambivalent and the voters themselves aren't going to buy it in enough numbers to win. They wouldn't risk running M.Obama unless it was a sure thing otherwise it could just end up tarnishing her rep and they'd lose what they irrationally think of as an ace up their sleeves.

She's not the card they play in a last-ditch desperate attempt to squeak out a win... she's the card they play when they basically already know she'll win so they can spin it as proof of her popularity and 'mandate' no matter what the actual election margin.
