Harris camp ducks questions on why Walz retired from military before completing coursework for high rank

The Harris campaign dodged Fox Digital's press inquiry asking why Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz did not complete U.S. Army Sergeants Major Academy coursework before retiring.

Oerdin

It is very clear he retired to avoid being deployed to Iraq.  He also wanted to run for Congress.

Brother, most people running for office embellish their resumes. We both know that. Biden added fairy tales, but he is a pathological liar.

What Walz did was not a big deal to me. But, to folks like yourself that wore the uniform and saw combat it is unforgivable. Am I right?

Absolutely unforgivable in every way.  He not only lied about seeing combat but he also lied about the rank he retired at.  Both of those are official legal crimes which he committed under federal law and it is called stolen valor.  No, you do not lie and claim to be a combat veteran when you are not.  That makes you the lowest scum imaginable.

It is a disgrace to the people who did actually serve and who were killed and wounded during their service.  Walz lied, he had a key leadership position yet he abandoned his who battalion, no wonder his commanding officer said he was glad Walz ran away.  The fucking coward.

And yet O Oerdin - is that JD Vance wasn't a combat soldier either.

He was a reporter/journalist during his deployment in Iraq.

QuoteVance was deployed to Iraq but didn't experience combat

Vance spent six months in Iraq during his time with the Marines. His deployment began in August 2005 and ended in February 2006, the Marines spokesperson confirmed.

But Vance did not experience combat in Iraq and has not publicly claimed that he did.

"I served in a combat zone. I never said that I saw a firefight myself, but I've always told the truth about my Marine Corps service," Vance told reporters on Aug. 7, 2024, while defending his recent criticisms of Walz's military record.

Though Vance didn't see combat as a military journalist, he was "in a war zone in a particularly bad year in Iraq," Quil Lawrence, a veterans correspondent for NPR, said in early August 2024.

Vance also wrote about his time in Iraq in "Hillbilly Elegy," saying in part that he was "lucky to escape any real fighting."

"As a public affairs marine, I would attach to different units to get a sense of their daily routine. Sometimes I'd escort civilian press, but generally I'd take photos or write short stories about individual marines or their work," Vance wrote in his memoir. "Early in my deployment, I attached to a civil affairs unit to do community outreach. Civil affairs missions were typically considered more dangerous, as a small number of marines would venture into unprotected Iraqi territory to meet with locals."

Maybe the military saw something of promise in him/intelligence that they thought he ought to be protected instead of being exposed to the rigors of fighting/combat?

I hear you. Loud and clear.  But do you think any of that matters to the vermin filth in his base  who care only about crucial matters of paramount importance? that they be allowed to murder babies at tax payer funded 24 hr drive ups or be assured tampons are available to boys in thier bathrooms when needed?

So what?  He honorably served, didn't run away, and didn't engage in stolen valor.  Walz did.  End of story.

Joe knows Vance didn't pretend to be something he wasn't like Walz did. He is just being an asshole as usual.

I did not know this.

I have never been a soldier, but I understand this.

Tim Walz is not apologizing for misrepresenting his service in the Minnesota National Guard.

While on the campaign trail on Tuesday, Walz addressed the mounting controversy and criticisms after multiple videos and statements that he and others had made about his service during his time in politics surfaced. From falsely stating he "carried a weapon of war in war" to not correcting others who claimed he served in Afghanistan, there has been a clear pattern Walz has followed.

Do you mean they are crimes under military law, civilian law or both?

Congress passed and the president signed the stolen valor act in 2005.
